Sales - WW UP - 15th October - View Post

Okay so, I'll say what I've been saying for Months.

Nintendo launched the 3DS way too soon, to help with the financials. This has screwed up big style. They're losing profit and sales are tanking due to a lack of quality (Or any?) SW releasing.

Hardly any games were ready for the system, DS was selling perfectly fine as it was (with profits) and Nintendo themselves only had poor efforts on show for it. Nintendogs and Cats? Steel Diver? A Remake of an N64 game? Really? You can do better than that, Nintendo...

Nintendo should have done what I think, was planned originally. Released it this Holiday season.

March - Cut DS price, remain profitable.
September/October - Release 3DS along with plenty of games, release DSlite/DSi in lower-market countries for a cheap price. PS2 style.
November/December - Release the 3DS Mario games, Monster Hunter, real system sellers

This would have ensured huge sales, huge profits at the $250 price point, plenty more games releasing around launch and plenty of games releasing within the next 6 Months. There wouldn't be a need for a pricecut for another whole Year at the least due to there being support for it, Nintendo would be profiting on 3 systems. Instead, they decided to ruin 3DS' first Year on the market.

Makes you wonder what goes through the heads of Nintendo management.

OT: Excellent PS3 and 360 numbers, and the DS finally falls below the PSP.

Anyone got the full adjustment numbers?

While I see almost all of Nintendo's decisions concerning the 3DS as FUD (the early launch and desperate price cut), it was probably necessary to stay competitive with Sony.  Had they launched in Nov/Dec WW at $250, even with the Vita having its delayed WW launch in Feb, Sony would have had no problem overtaking Nintendo's handheld.  It just has more hype (especially in Japan) and would have been seen as the better value at $250.  Now, Nintendo may have a fighting chance with its lower price and early launch.  Of course, we'll just have to wait and see how things play out.

@ OP

The PS3 is back on top, and I see it staying that way for AT LEAST a few more weeks.  It's looking very doubtful, maybe even impossible, for the 360 to take the #1 spot this year WW.  Japan, and to a lesser extent EMEAA, just isn't going to let that happen.
