Agreed, if anything they should take out the trapazoid (spelling?) so goalies can play the puck. Less injuries I'll bet.

It makes sense, players would get injured less if the goalie played it more as they would not always have to chase down the puck when it is  out of the trapazoid area. I thought it was added at the last lockout to encouarge more scoring by giving the offense more chances to keep the puck alive in the offensive zone. I do not think it worked so it does seem a little pointless as a rult to me.

My step daughter went with her friends parents to see the Black Hawks lose yesterday.....

Damn what is she like 8 or something? She knows how to pick man sports. ;)

Concerning your thread title; I think that the NHL should get rid of the 1 point that you get for just making overtime. You should get 1 point for making the shootout though, I believe.

I would agree with this except for the fact if it was implemented than many teams would probably just play the entire overtime super defensively and try to force the shootout. Especially teams that dominate in the shootout like the avs. This would obviously benefit teams with more offensive skill as having many great shooters are more likely to win you the shootout. It would certainly benefit teams like the avs and Chicago, but hurt teams that rely more on wins using defense and neutral zone boring slow down hockey. I would rather see the fast paced highly offensive overtimes we see now.

GMs are discussing the rules soon, it should be interesting to see if there are many changes. I say eliminate the salary cap again. As the avs are owned by the Super rich Walmart partial owner Stan Kronke, who will pay his way to the best team if he could. He did it before the salary cap.

I wish they would just go to no touch icing. It's faster, easier to explain to non-hockey fans, and no additional lines needs to be added to the ice. No more silly races to the puck, or casual strolls by the defencemen to the puck. also take out the trapezoid. That rule was a mistake no doubt.

I just got to say, with all the posters disliking the attitude of Canucks fans, I can't really disagree with them. We do have a level of arrogance. We had the opportunity to see the Sedins turn into top talent players. It was us Vancity fans you would constantly mention how underrated the sedins were years before Henrik broke out and won the Hart. The fact that many fans abhor the thought of the twins succeeding and resort to name-calling confirms their star power.

We witnessed Kesler turn from a 3rd line checker to a selke trophy winner and 40 goal scorer. The same can be said of Burrow, a staple on the top line. The players we added last year just add to the hate. And who can forget about Luongo, the biggest enigma of them all? This team is full of personalities.

With the current iteration of canucks, it really does seem like they could go all the way. We have been through many teams that always seem to fold at the turn of the playoffs. They could eliminate all the pain and sorrow Canucks fans had to endure when they choked against the flames in 04, the wild in 03. The whole province gets behind them, as noticed last year during the run.

I guess we do get overzealous at times, and with the recent success found in the regular season, we can get carried away. I feel last year was the best chance of winning cup with these players. This year has been inconsistent at times. An early exit in the playoffs wouldn't be as surprising this year. Hopefully we won't have to wait another 17 years for the next run.

and if you think the fans are unbearable now, just wait until the Canucks win the cup. oh boy.

OT is always exciting because it's 4 on 4.  As long as they keep it that way things will be fine.

By the way, if your players can't win in a shootout, it's time to find some that can.

^^^^^ I agree with you amp haha as the avs win another shootout as did Chicago last night.

The Buffalo-Avalanche game was the fastest game I had seen in awhile, it seems when the west meets the East both sides play less defensively as they are not hurting themselves by helping the other team by giving up points. Landeskog shines again getting the big play assist on the goal that tied the game against Buffalo with only two seconds left. :) The announcers starting trying to compare the young player to Peter Foresberg, haha, saying what is true that he always gives his all on every shift. I still doubt the guy will be as good as Foresberg, but he should be a star in the league for over a decade.

Dallas loses leaving the Pacific as open forever. And currently watching Pheonix, (hoping they lose) but so far the Canucks are failing.

Oh God, I hope this doesn't happen.  This would be the fastest way to ruin the game.

I don't want to speak too soon, but it looks like the Hawks are going to get into the playoffs as long as they don't have another one of those 9 game losing streaks or something like that...

They could very well get the 6th seed and play a team with a worse record than them.

Not much of an explanation of why? Ever since it was implemented all the teams became closer in level of ability and caused hardly any teams to stand out, causing these very close races for the playoffs like we see especially this year in the West were about 6 teams have almost identical records and only about two or them will make it well the others will barely miss it.
