lol THAT'S the basis for your assessment of uncharted as a series? if it doesn't get goty for those genre then it's not on the same level as other games...gotcha

and for the record UC2 won tps goty awards as well among many other categories. here is a link with some of the awards it has won to educate yourself a bit (first thing that popped up in google)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncharted_2:_Among_Thieves#Awards

As for platforming, it's just the take on platforming that keeps it from getting goty for the category. for example tomb raider and Prince of Persia like games also have platforming....but 3d platforming, especially platforming handled the way such games do does not get considered for goty awards usually..why? beats me. they are fluid as they come and fun as hell. Uncharted is up there with the best when it comes to platforming...it's just different type to what's most popular.

and again..you are clueless as to what you are talking about. if you had a clue and actually have had played the series, I would have loved to have a in depth conversation with you all different aspects, such as tps, platforming, puzzles etc to see what the specific shortcomings you see in them when compared to the games you consider to be the best in each field. but nah..you have no clue whatsoever.

Fine, it won one GotY award for TPS in a year with weak contenders. I should have taken into consideration what was released in 2009 before making that comment about GotY awards.

The platforming in games like Tomb Raider and Prince of Persia is pretty weak and feature stuff like auto-correction. Taking these games into consideration for platformer GotY awards would be an insult to the genre, that's why they don't get nominees or shouldn't get them.

I know who I can trust. If those people who also play comparable games on other platforms say that Uncharted isn't as good in these aspects as the best games in the respective genres, then I don't see any reason why I should doubt them.

sigh you see this is the issue and we are back at the same point..you are clueless about the game.

lol auto-correction. I won't go there. it's a different type of platforming..the focus and aim is different. doesn't mean it's 'inferior' to mario or anything for example. I for one don't really care for 2d platformers much yet have a lot of fun with 3d platforming like this. Like I said, it doesn't fit the 'mold' of a typical platformer, nothing more nothing less. If Uncharted gets the award for the platforming I would be surprised..critics would actually think outside of their stuck up boxes for a change, and not give into nostalgia and same old same old. but nah doubt that's ever gonna happen.

and I will tell you WHO you SHOULD trust. yourself. play the game and come back so you will actually know what you are talking about. Uncharted does a LOT of things so well and is up there with the best of the best. It is a jack of all trades..but also master of many.

about the tps goty bit..let me tell explain a few things to you. a lot of media outlets don't even do TPS GOTY award..most probably because there are very few games competing in the genre compared to fps. sites like gamespot just have a shooter goty. and also a lot of sites, in the nomination process, seems to be follow the rule of including games that they have categorized as belonging to that specific genre only. For example if they categorize the game 'A' as platformer, such games will be taken into consideration for the puzzle genre but not for the action genre even if the game is a mix of two. These things affect the genre goty awards.

thinking about it..what TPS games have you played? Uncharted is a TPS of the highest quality may it be the sp or the mp. I'm curious to see what kind of games you could compare it to IF you play the games in the future

man for a moment there I thought you tried to be witty and funny and failed..now you are failing at being serious! just give it a rest..play the games and come back and we can actually have a decent conversation about the pros and cons.

Its very obviously both a tps and action/adventure. Because the tps aspects of the game are very mediocre, and the action/adventure aspects are good, most people who like the game will be inclined to call it an action/adventure because that is the genre it excels in.

I can't believe how easily MUGEN gets on the defensive side, even when it is quite obvious Rol is toying with him and is not serious.

@Op: I think it is an adventure game with TPS elements.

shooting aspects are very mediocre?

LOL, I beg to differ. Very few games do it better

lol defensive? not at all. I just pointed how full of it he is. that's all. And I like to give serious responses if possible always. I can't possibly know what idiotic behavior everyone is up to on the internet. unlike you guys I'm low on the paranoid side you see.

Saying it's a TPS puts all genres on a slippery slope.

You'd have to claim Mass Effect and Metal Gear and GTA are all TPS, because all of these will only improve their shooter elements over the years.

And next thing you know everything is a shooter.

All those games are TPSs, Mass effect is a TPS with RPG elements, MGS is a TPS with stealth, GTA since 3 is a open world TPS with driving elements...

It follows the typical Sony strategy: Jack of all trades, master of none. You can't put it in one genre, because it incorporates many different things. Looking at its individual parts, it can't seriouly compete with games that have a more focused approach, but in the sum it works.

I like your comments @Rol... but please play the game first . You don't know what you talking about .

I would say that MGS focuses more on stealth than TPS elements first. For a game that rewards you for not getting caught, I wouldn't exactly call it a TPS.
