It follows the typical Sony strategy: Jack of all trades, master of none. You can't put it in one genre, because it incorporates many different things. Looking at its individual parts, it can't seriouly compete with games that have a more focused approach, but in the sum it works.

clearly you have no clue about what you're talking about. you try too hard to be witty and funny at times....

OT"Uncharted imo is an Action/Adventure game with a TPS focus for combat and also heavy emphasis on platforming. may it be SP or MP. can't really fit into one category and hence why many gaming media outlets have it listed as different genre.

It's an action game, with some platforming and third person shooter elements in it.

It's a dual genre, both TPS (because of online) and Action/Adventure (because of the campaign).

you think it is TPS because of an online component?? That is interesting because even the online component had a good amount of climbing and jumping. What would you classify the original Uncharted and upcoming Vita game? Hell what about AC Brotherhood & Revelations

In online mode there is no adventure elements, it's purely a competitive shooter game on that mode. This is what I love about the Uncharted series it always has the best campaings of any games and a unique online mode.

okay, i can go with no adventure. But what about the multi level maps, most of them you have to do some climbing, so its not all shooting. just most of it is

Much like the way Metroid Prime is a First Person Action-Adventure. Uncharted is a Thirdperson Action-Adventure; IMO.

Whatever genre Tomb Raider is, that's what Uncharted is. The single player campaign does everything Tomb Raider does. Tomb Raider has better puzzles, boobs, and enemies and Uncharted has better....everything else. Still, if you swapped Nathan Drake and Lara Croft, you would have the best Tomb Raider ever or the worst Uncharted ever but you wouldn't think twice about the genre.

Now Uncharted does have the best TPS controls this side of Gears of War and there are a ton of gunfights but you can go an hour in Uncharted without shooting anything. In my book, that's an action adventure.

better enemies??? WTH?? IMHO it has some of the worst enemies ever. You really consider animals as good enemies. Then the crazy devs ran out of different animals to kill and started to recycle them after the 2nd game.

TR and Uncharted are two sides of the same coin. One focuses on gunplay the other puzzles. looking at Uncharted 3, id be shock if there were more than 3 puzzles in the game. TR maintain its puzzle influence and the only one to deviate was Legend and even that had more puzzles than Uncharted

And i love how people talk about a game they have never played and act like they know what they are talking about. Love it

Sure, that's why your response to the topic's question is essentially the same as mine. You know just as well as everyone else that Uncharted isn't going to win any TPS or platformer GotY awards.

lol THAT'S the basis for your assessment of uncharted as a series? if it doesn't get goty for those genre then it's not on the same level as other games...gotcha

and for the record UC2 won tps goty awards as well among many other categories. here is a link with some of the awards it has won to educate yourself a bit (first thing that popped up in google)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncharted_2:_Among_Thieves#Awards

As for platforming, it's just the take on platforming that keeps it from getting goty for the category. for example tomb raider and Prince of Persia like games also have platforming....but 3d platforming, especially platforming handled the way such games do does not get considered for goty awards usually..why? beats me. they are fluid as they come and fun as hell. Uncharted is up there with the best when it comes to platforming...it's just different type to what's most popular.

and again..you are clueless as to what you are talking about. if you had a clue and actually have had played the series, I would have loved to have a in depth conversation with you all different aspects, such as tps, platforming, puzzles etc to see what the specific shortcomings you see in them when compared to the games you consider to be the best in each field. but nah..you have no clue whatsoever.

The main villains in Uncharted 1 and 2 were as boring and generic as they come.  At least Tomb Raider had Jaqueline Natla (from Atlantis) and Amanda, Lara's friend who was presumed dead.  Even the Doppleganger Lara was better.  In fact, every boss is better than the nameless army of pirates we got from the Uncharted's.  The more I think about it, the more convinced I become.  Aside from Eddie Raja (who was also nothing special), I can't even remember the names of any villains in Uncharted.  Tomb Raider (Just naming the ones from Anniversary, Legend, and Underworld) had Rutland, Shogo (the Yakuza guy), Pierre Dupont (The Eddie Raja of Tomb Raider), Natla's three goons, and a bevy of bosses.  Devs ran out of enemies and started to recycle them after the 2nd game?  How far into Uncharted did you get before you started running into identical goons?  Halfway through level 1?  A bear, a bat, and a cougar are three different enemy types.  A man, a man, and a man (which you also face in Tomb Raider) are just that.

*edit*  Forgot about Flynn.  He was cool.  Also, I apologize for the venom I was about to spit.  It was just a misunderstanding, I guess.

As for the people who talk about a game they have never played, surely you don't mean me?

ohhhh your talking about the bosses, you should specify that next time, i thought you meant the enemies throughout the game. I agree with you then, but Flynn was alrgiht. And that old ass lady in 3 looks cool. Dont remember the last time you had to fight an old ass lady

I punched one in the face just the other.......oh.  You meant in a video game.  Nevermind, then.

It's a TPSPAAAG

I agree with yo_john, it's a TRAP!

(I would say it's an Action-Adventure game with Third Person Shooter Elements. No one said it had to be a clean fit. :P)

This shows how little you know!

It's obviously  Third Person Shooter with Action/Adventure elements!
