This thread and whatever numbers VGchartz puts up doesn't matter anyway. Microsoft's claim was for 2011 shipments. So until both Sony and Microsoft release their shipments of 2011 there won't be a clear 'winner'. Either way, it's going to be very close.

From the OP.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-08-24-microsofts-chris-lewis-interview

August. Sales, not shipments.

"Eurogamer: So when you say number one you mean sales?

Chris Lewis: I mean purely install base with consumers. We don't count units unless they're actually out there and installed. This isn't shipments. This isn't revenue. This is install base of consoles."

And again, the numbers from this site won't matter until we hear official numbers from Microsoft and Sony. Shipped or sold.

Obviously we will need to wait for shipment numbers, but the fact still remains that Microsoft said they will be number 1 in WW sales... Not shipments.

Hopefully Sony learns how important the American market is with the beating its currently receiving.

A little over half a million to go! I do love a close race! Now lets all hope that VGC doesn't screw up like the past few X-mas severely undertracking the PS3 while overtracking the Xbox360 to an extent where it sold more than it shipped.

During the last 5 or 6 weeks they undertracked the PS3 by 3,700 and overtracked the 360 by 86,000. So I wouldn't exactly call that "severely undertracking" on the PS3's part.

Like almost everything on this website people overdramatized it.

As I asked thx1139 in another thread, do you have links that show this?  I could have sworn it was by more.  Of course, I could be thinking of another year.

well the real question is, can the 360 make up the 563,000 needed to win this year. I hope so. Would make me laugh about all the doom threads that came out this  year. Also 360 did it all without a price cut.

Agrred. Reading through this thread, it really seems that some guy's sanity depends on whether their favourite gadget beats the other guy's favourite gadget by applying their definition of "winning". Sony's fj plan is not to sell more than MS, the plan is to sell 15mio units, it says so in its fj plan. It looks like they could actually make it so they will have "won". As far as undertracking is concerned, This week, Sony Germany announced they sold 3mio PS3 in Germany (there will be a raffle for a PS3 with gold plated "3'000'000" on it. Not even going into the "shipped vs sold" argument, check VGChartz for its number to see incoming adjustments.

Hmm its getting good. But like i predicted 360 will just miss. Unless somehow it manages to out sale the PS3 by over 500,000.

The ps3 is outselling the x360 in the eu and everywhere in the world besides usa.

Except Americas and UK ...

what will happen if someone call Canadian or Mexcian is American?

That's actually what I don't understand. Why do USA people call themselves simply Americans? Are Mexicans and Canadians not Americans too?

Using this logic... I'm an American too.

Indeed, that's what I meant. You live in America after all. USA citizens refer to USA however as "America". A bit strange

Simple - USA stands for United States of America - so we shorten it to "America". Canada isn't officially named "Canadian States of America" as are any other of the countries in the Americas.

Still sounds silly imo. When I talk about America I'm talking about North and South America.

It's kinda like saying Europe instead of western Asia.

Lol, how is it like that? Europe is a continent and is not a part of Asia.

I'm just saying, it's a naming convention based on history. The USA was the first independent colony in North America and had "America" in it's name, so a term like "Americans" stuck. Its also easier and sounds better than United Statesian or something. And we weren't going to call ourselves "the Colonies".

As for Europe, that's based on history too. Many see the division of Europe and Asia into different "continents" to be based on nothing more than lingering Eurocentrism, and call the whole landmass Eurasia instead. Europe is also completely a part of the Eurasian plate, along with most of Asia, so there really isn't any reason to consider it a different continent.

We'll know if MS has done it, they'll be bragging like crazy, and if they're silent they've lost.

Hopefully shipments don't put them neck and neck for the year.
