Sounds like a better option than beating her to death.  He should have just stood there and watched her kill herself.  Then he would be in zero trouble.  If she didn't kill the kid then I would have saved her but since she did then she might as well finish herself off.

Too bad the medical help would have been to prescribe her antidepressants that increase the rate of suicide.

its interesting that people want to take into account the mental health and stability of the woman, but fail to consider the extreme mental anguish that the man would be suffering at this time. so she is not guilty because of her problems, but in all likelihood he wasnt able to control himself either and by the same standard should be also not guilty of the crime.

The woman was obviously mentally unstable and he should have prevented her from killing herself called 911 to get help for his unconcious daughter and dead son. I would definitely be very mad at my wife but I don't think that I would kill her as it is irrational , its not going to bring my son back and I can already save my daughter (Assuming she wasn't dead) yah I would never be able to fully forgive my wife or stay married to her but I wouldn't kill her.

She should have been tried for manslaughter or second degree murder and attempted murder. Then received mental help in an institution until the point where she was safe to be released into the public. If she never became safe she should have received the care required to live out the rest of her life in a safe environment where nobody was in harms way.

Now of course if she had her arms around her sons neck and was chocking him to death and he walked in, using force to defend your son and get her off would have been warranted. if she had died in the process of trying to kill her kids and he was acting to protect them that would be understandable. But she had already killed the son, the daughter was safe, she was just trying to kill herself. He had no right to use deadly force against a harmless individual.

This sort of reminds me of Shutter Island (Spoiler)

In Shutter Island the main characters wife killed all of her children and then he killed her. He was so mentally disturbed by the incident and blamed himself for not protecting his kids. The event drew him into insanity causing him to go mental and eventually get lobotomized.

This sounds almost identical I wonder if this man blames himself for his sons death. I wonder what effects this event will have on his mental stability, though I doubt he will go completely off his rocker a traumatic event where the love of your life kills your son and you then kill her is bound to fuck you up. Even if he didn't love his wife as much as a husband should it would still be very traumatic I feel sorry for the man.

However stand by the fact that he should have intervened to save her life and that of his daughter. His son was already dead nothing he could do about that, she also intended to kill herself doing it for her out of vengeance doesn't accomplish anything. Morally speaking this is a tragic event that should never have occurred if the woman had gotten help earlier she wouldn't have killed her son. There should have been signs that her mental health was deteriorating. Then secondly once she killed the son the husband should not have killed his defenseless wife who was obviously a victim of her own psychosis.

However he acted out of anger and rage, likely wasn't thinking rationally or using a moral basis to guide his decision making. Because if he was this wouldn't have happened. Its understandable but not acceptable!

So what?  I m so sick of this defense... why the hell is everyone always so concerned about the mental health of the mother in cases such as this where she is responsible for the deaths of her kids?  It's like the cases involving the mom who drowned her kids in the bathtub or drove the car into a river.  Everyone's always like "Aww don't punish her, can't you see she's mentaly unstable and needs proper treatment and care."

Meanwhile, dad can come home from work one day and blow his family to hell, and nobody ever questions his mental capacity or pushes for him to get treatment.  Nope... everyone wants his head on a plate, or at least for his ass to rot in jail for the rest of his life.

And to answer your question, yes, I support beating the mentally ill.  Because there's no fun in beating "normal" people.

Alos, the guy went about it the right way. She WANTED to kill hersrelf. Killing her was really counter-productive. He should've not killed her, prevented her from killing herself, made sure she got psychiatric help and no longer wanted to kill herself and wanted to enjoy life, and only then kill her.

I doubt that it's a big deal that the girl lost her mother. It's probably the best thing to happen to her in a while, since that woman seemed unfit to be a parent (for obvious reasons). And way to put the blame on the victim. It's always the man's fault, no?
