Forums - Sales - Do you think RAGE will be a sales flop?

Resistance 3 is flop, Rage won't be flop

Rage can sell over 2 million on XBOX360 and nearly 1 million on PS3

Besides, there is large chunk of PC version sales. Doom 3 sold 3 million on PC and 1 million on XBOX

depends..how much did they spend on it?

I can imagine it wasn't a small amount.

this game has been in development for ages right? :s sorry I haven't followed info on this game much, not really interested in it atm.

Well it was first shown as a tech demo in 2007 so that's a good 4 or more years of development time and I'm fairly sure they have made (or updated) a engine specifically for the game.

hmm wonder 2-3 million in sales plus DLC etc can cover for that time. I guess we wont know until an article on it props up in a year or so :D

Yeah I would imagine if it sold about that much it would break even.

But I don't think it will flop. The pre-orders may not be very high right now but I think it will have great legs once everyone realizes how awesome it is...much like RDR, Fallout 3, ect.

yeah reviews and such will help or ruin the legs too. when is the embargo do you know?

Embargos usually end on the Sunday before the game releases. So i'm guessing this Monday at 12:01AM.

The development of this game is mostly for engie (ID tech 5), after Rage, they will use same engine to make Doom 4 and Quake 5.

Id software has huge IPs

And with that, make a chunk of change licensing the engine out to other developers to use.  There is money, money, money in licensing out engines.  Epic gets a good revenue stream from licensing out their engine.

Nope. They aren't interested in licensing their engines. They did it reluctantly in the past because there were basically no other good options. Nowadays you have Unreal Engine, CryEngine, Unity and more. In case you haven't noticed, they stopped licensing their engines after Quake 3, except for companies they outsource their IPs to like Raven and Splash Damage.

No. The preorders show it will be a moderate success.

No, I don't think it will be a flop, but it might not be a huge success in terms of opening week sales when compared to other games. Although the opening may not be huge, that does not mean the game won't have legs (which I think it will.)

What numbers for opening week do the preorder numbers suggest?

Surely they are higher than Deus Ex right (who is on pace towards 1.5 million lifetime sales on X360 and 1 million on PS3)?
