I edited my post. If it's just NA then 80 games is about right. Though I don't know why Disgaea 3 is on that list...

650k is ridiculous for an RPG in NA (barring FF/KH/Pokemon and a few games like Paper Mario) that wasn't advertised no matter how you spin it, proof or no proof. VGC isn't perfect, and I do recall even outlawauron mentioning that VGC has overtracked a lot of RPGs in the past. Believe what you want though.

Demon's Souls got 740k and I don't recall that ever getting any advertising, and the number has been shown to be in line with Atlus's shipping numbers so that means that 650k isn't ridiculous for an RPG in NA.

It's true but Demon's Soul just happens to be different. VC is an anime-inspired SRPG (that's not FF/KH). Won't sell as much as a more Western looking game. Barely any RPGs will do 650k in the Americas so it's not like VC not selling that amount is a big deal or anything.

Demon's Soul is only one rare game out of a sea of RPGs that won't sell close to that amount. And DS is much different from the others anyway. And hey, DS is a GH, VC is not.

So Demon's Souls is a break out unexpected hit, but VC couldn't possibly be just because of your gut?  You know why Demon's Souls was a break out unexpected hit?  simple, because it's a uniquely fantastic game that got word of mouth to keep it's sales alive and give it unprecedented lets.  Souns like VC to me.

Your greatest hits argument is crap, there are too many exceptions in both directions for that to be an ironclad rule that 500,000 equals Greatest Hits.  Disgaea 3 in one direction isn't even at 300k, Bioshock 2 on the other hand has 600,000 and no greatest hits.  Obviously there are other conditions/deals in play.

Atlus mentioned DS sold 500k, we have proof. Sega made no mention of great VC sales after that article you linked me despite the supposed 650k sales. Disgaea 3 is a mistake because there is no GH for that game to begin with. I don't know why Bioshock 2 isn't a GH yet, but VC is a game that came out in 2008. There should've been more room for it to become a GH (if it did pass the sales criteria) than B2. They could've done it when VC2 launched on the PSP or something. B2 could still become a GH eventually, VC doesn't seem like it has a chance since nearly 3 years have passed.

Dude,

just give it up.

VC is 3 years old, has great reviews, and the PS3 has over 50 million users.

You act like a great game that's old as heck selling 1 million units is a near miracle or something.

wow, never thought I'd see Soriku and Torillian arguing over an RPG, you guys are like the RPG guru's of this site

anyway @ Soriku, I know you have your doubts about this game, but I think PS3 has proven that's it games can have steller legs and surprising moments. to your reply to persistanthug: look at WKC, it got slammed by many western reviewers(64 meta) and it managed to crawl it's way to 800k(according to VGC) VC was praised by many reviewers(86 meta) and had great word of mouth. so 1 mil doesn't seem far off.

Take look at some other RPG's(according VGC which could be all ruled out since you don't agree with VC numbers)
Star ocean 4 sold over 500k despite being a late port(140k short of the 360 version)
Eternal Sonata: outsold the 360 version despite being a year late port
Resonance of Fate: over the 500k mark
WKC II slammed yet again(59 meta) and has sold 340k and should atleast be at 400k at the end of the year.
Ar tonelico 3 best selling of the series(though it sits at 180k -_-)

is it so hard to believe VC could scratch 1mil with a 50+ mil install base and being out for nearly 3 years? do we really need a company to announce all the time that a game reaches a million(or another milestone)

A Valkyria Chronicles sales thread is never complete without a Soriku post ^^

Anyway, 1 of the 1 million here.

I didn't really enjoy it, but I can appreciate that it's an excellent SRPG and I'm glad to see it cross the 1 million mark.

Sure you're not confusing me with jarrod? Anyway I never received an explanation for what I mentioned.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing.

OT: While it's most likely undertracked, I'm quite proud of the game. It did much better than I could ever imagine it doing.

Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,

*raises glass with you*  Thanks to btw, at least some people can read the OP and understand this thread was meant for a congrats to this game. Whether people agree with the numbers or not, it is what it is and i am damn happy for it.

Best strategy RPG I've played in my life.... that is all.

Soriku has a point. VC hasn't reached greatest hits. If it was selling, they would have made a greatest hits edition which would have given free advertising.

Demon's souls on the other hand reached greatest hits and best of, and atlus has proudly announced the nos as well.

VGC has been wrong about sales of software many times.
