I"m not sure 360 sales WERE disappointing. They sold more this holiday than the last 2 (that hasn't changed, right?). They just look weak compared to the PS3, which is benfiting from a $100-200 price cut (depending on how you look at it). Since MS can't give their console away in Japan, and wasn't able to match the Sony price cuts, this shouldn't be a big surprise.

MS will almost certainly cut the price of the 360 to under $300 before E3 (and I think before May). If they were smart, would announce an even bigger cut for Europe, and consider marketing an inexpensive ($99) BluRay player add on.

Microsoft still has High-def movies via download on xbox live marketplace. I believe there huge annoucement will be player that plays both formats. haven't they already designed somthing of this sort. It going to be built inside the xbox360

Concerning the bolded text above, here are the 30 million-unit-selling games on the 360.  Notice the variety of games such as Halo 3, Oblivion, Forza, Guitar Hero, Dead Rising, etc.  So much for the FPS-is-the-only-successful-genre-on-the-360 argument.

I do not think creating an xbox , that is directly going to compete with the PS3 is a smart move for MS. They would be showing everyone that Sony's strategy is right, and their's are wrong.
If they introduce a player with an HD-DVD drive, it would be a step backward for a lot of reasons.
They need to lower the cost if they want to be more competitive.
We will see this Sun/Mon at CES what they plan to do.

Microsoft is slowly pushed out of the war.....they have done everything!!

They need to release a version that has reliable hardware, not necessarily one that has a HD-DVD drive.

You know, this was the first X-mas for the PS3 in the "others" part of the world, could that be the reason there was such a huge spike in sales over the past couple of weeks?
