Forums - Nintendo - Wii tops 88M.

I was looking at the old selling information, nintendo home console did not last long after the new model was reelased (Gamecueb did only 1.5 mil after Wii release) - Sony still producing that PS2 but to be honest i would like to meet any of the 12k people that still buying it in the US (PS2 did 31 mil after the release of PS3)

The PS2 has actually done quite a bit more than that since the PS3 launched.  VGC tracking has just been awful for it and they refuse to ever update it.  I guess since it isn't on the main page they just don't care.  The PS2 has shipped 45.8 million between October 1st 2006 and June 31st 2011.

great now on to 90m... i don't feel so excited anymore. oh well maybe because the generation is almost over

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

Why all the hate for number 88?
In Japanese culture it's actually celebrated as a special age - known as "the rice age" because the characters for the word eighty-eight resemble the character for rice, which is a cultural cornerstone and highly regarded and respected in the east since it is the main source of food for so many.

So turning 88 in Japan is actually an important milestone and is considered quite honorable.
Therefor this thread is in fact very appropriate!

Until you've played it, every game is a system seller!

Yeah I keep seeing these threads, PSP 69.9 and other crazy milestones. I would say though I think at least 90.2 before black friday. I am hoping for an average of a million a week after that!

Well done Nintendo.

When shipments data come in, it may show that we have sold unite too high or too low, I think now the distance between sold and shipped is about 750K for Wii. So come late October the shipped numbers in theory will be  88.8M or 89.8M so sellthrough will be 88.2M end of september, I don't jnow how accurate VGC are right now though.

I applaud the Wii for its great numbers, but this thread brings up an annoying point for me.....this site just ignores the fact that it undertracks the PS2 by many millions, and they don't even care. The PS2 is at like 152 million sold to customers, for Christ's sake. Wtf man.
