This is the first game they released after their announcement to go multiplatform, so they don't rank as high among the PlayStation fanbase as they used to. Their next Ratchet & Clank game is most likely also poised to underperform in the marketplace. Meanwhile, all eyes are on Naughty Dog. |
It is very interesting how the two companies (Naughty Dog and Insomniac) trade dominance ever other generation. Naughty dog controlled PS1 with Crash Bandicoot while Insomniac had good sales with Spyro. Then Ratchet and Clank controlled the PS2 while Jak had a good existance. For PS3 it's Naughty Dog's turn again. Uncharted is mopping up Resistance.
I also think that the multiplatform announcement from Insomniac did hurt them though. Sony loyalists gave them alot of money over the years (Spyro, Ratchet and Resistance). Sony supported them every step of the way and they still become multiplatform. Ted Price is a great guy though and hopefully the bitter taste of growing up doesn't end up killing a talented (and passionate) development team.
