Forums - PC - AMD's GPU roadmap leaked- HD7970 to hit 1000 MHz!

The summary is:

-All based on the 28nm process.

-Will use the new PCIe 3.0 interface.

-HD78xx series will come with 2Gb of DDR5 memory.

-HD79xx series will use the new Rambus XDR2 memory.

-HD7950 will run at 900MHZ, the HD7970 will run at 1000MHz.

-Power consumption reduced massively. While the current HD6970 uses 250 watts, the HD7950 will use 150 watts and the HD7970 190 watts.

man XDR2 that's going to be expensive, also over 2000 cores + more advanced GPGPU/compute shader capabilities + 1GHz these things are going to be monsters!

Holy shit! ATI are on a roll! I wonder how much these GPUs are going to cost though probably around 500 or 600 dollars.

probably around that probably closer to the US$600 end at launch if the XDR2 part is true Rambus are notorious for high licensing fees plus the the chips themselves won't be cheap to manufacture with such high frequincies I imagine and the 28nm proccess will be expensive at the start as well. If supply is tight the top part may push past $600 given that Nvidia will probably be ~6monsth later again.

Before you all get too excited, those rumoured specs are probably fake. They started in a Chinese forum (http://bbs.expreview.com/thread-46257-1-1.html), so you should take them with a jar of salt.
Even if they turn up to be true, there's nothing special about running at 1Ghz. Nvidia has been doing that since 2006.

a good thing to do is actually buy now and upgrade later when this is released, right now they will get a lot cheaper since these new generations ones are going to be released.

it will save you alot more money this way.
