Do you have to install games on the Vita?

Only if you want to download games. If you buy games on cartridges, the cartridges will hold both save data and eventual DLC. So if you don't want to download complete games from the PS Store, memory cards are pretty much unneeded.

Unless you plan on buying a lot of PSP games, since the Vita can't play UMDs. Having never owned a PSP (and definitely not owning one now, thanks to the digital downloads of the games), I will probably be picking up some PSP games, which means you'll need a memory card.

I think the memory cards are a little expensive, but they're Japanese prices, so they might be cheaper whenever the Vita makes its debut in the west.

Hence why I said you would only need it if you wanted to download games from the PS Store.

wow that was stupid on both accounts.

Should have just used a SD card instead and the battery should have remained easily changeable.

can't directly convert japan yen to other currency as japan usually will sell more expensive then other region, just compare the device itself price from japan and U.S and you will know japan ver. is more expensive...
b.t.w i think there will be something like value or core pack bundle just like the PSP...

I want proprietary cards to die a horrible death...With all the media functionality of the Vita a normal card would really make data transfers between a computer and the Vita much easier.

this is a stupid move the psv is already expensive enough, and a standard sd card would have done the job the battery thing is stupid too but most likely it wont affect most of the owners

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

Those memory card prices are insulting, especially if needed to buy DLC/downloadable games.

Hopefully not many people buy any downloadable games and Sony get a clue with pricing. Or it gets hacked, yeah piracy is bad but for the console but memory card prices like these balance it out in my book. Sony tried to rob people, people rob Sony back.

they said they each game will ship with reserved empty space on the card, for updates, patches, DLC, etc.

though it will be nice to have, i dont think memory cards will be that neccassary.

and i think they will be a lot cheaper in the US... they better be

I can handle the expense of a storage card, but embedded battery!?

e=mc^2

Gaming on: PS4 Pro, Switch, SNES Mini, Wii U, PC (i5-7400, GTX 1060)

You handled so much well with the Vita now, don't mess up with the details now, Sony!

updated: 14.01.2012

playing right now: Xenoblade Chronicles

Hype-o-meter, from least to most hyped:  the Last Story, Twisted Metal, Mass Effect 3, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Playstation ViTA

bet with Mordred11 that Rage will look better on Xbox 360.

those prices are too high, will wait for a 3rd party to release one.

You can blame the pirates for this. Piracy ruined the PSP and Sony is doing all it can to prevent it from happening with the Vita.
