Removing 3D from a 3DS would be like removing USB ports, operating systems, backwards compatibility, and and support for certain memory cards from a PS3. And adding a standard version with an analog nub would be almost as stupid as making a console without a rumble controller and suddenly turning around and adding a rumble controller.

In other words, totally insane.

That would be a terrible business decision, why remove the biggest feature from your product?
This is like the 9999th time of a 3D-less 3DS thread.

The 3DS's biggest feature is a liability instead of an asset, that's why.

But surely at this point it would be a worse decision to get rid of the feature. Releasing a new model with two sticks or without 3D and dividing the install base would be a disaster IMO, it would just make customers lose confidence in the product. I don't know if the 3D approach was the correct one, possibly not (though I don't think it's its biggest liability either). Either way I believe they should just stick to it. They need to launch appealing games and advertise well before holidays.

I agree with Troll_Whisperer. The 3DS's biggest liability (and a huge dick move by Nintendo) was leaving the entire launch window to 3rd parties. When the games never came, people lost interest in the platform, but now that the price has dropped, and games are arriving that interest is coming back. Why Nintendo piss off consumers now? They're just hitting their stride.

Why should Nintendo drop 3D from the 3DS when it is here to stay? There are also a lot of untapped benefits that they haven't touched yet (3D Movies on cartridge, 3D Netflix, etc.). Why let all of that go to waste? Sure it will drop the price, and improve the battery life but still.....

Also Nintendo named it Mario Kart 7 because their stance on putting 3D in names is to put it at the end of remakes.

You are crazy if you watched The Art of Flight Trailer and thought 3D is shit on it.

100% agrees here  on the bold

I just believe that their could be a option and it could help. Not just don't sell 3D at all! Nonsense This is why Nintendo should be making different models do satisfy different wants

I actually believe that there will be a different version of the 3DS in the near future.  I just think it's going to add features instead of taking features away.  Nintendo goes both ways, though (removes GBA port from DS, adds camera and browser, etc.) throughout history.  But who knows.  Every few years, somebody at Nintendo goes loopy.  They made the Gamecube powerful but made it look like a little girl's lunchbox.  They made the Snes powerful but gave it a processor slower than my pocket calculator.  They made the N64 perfect but stuck with expensive cartridges.  And don't get me started on the Wii!

They usually tend to do pretty well with their portables, though.  We'll see.

its weird that after all the hyping the 3d feature got we now have tons of people saying they hardly use the 3d feature and all of these threads calling for its removal... regardless, i agree with people saying that its removal would be a bad move as it helps to differentiate the 3ds as a different platform to the ds models before it

Not a single 3DS game has 3DS in the title. That's probably why they don't have 3DS in Mario Kart's name. T_T

They could, but they won't. Also, i thought "MK 7" was a temporary title.

It's been made 100% clear by Nintendo on multiple occasions that it's absolutely a permanent title.

The biggest problem with removing the 3D from the 3DS is that 3D is in the title of the machine. Basically what I'm saying is that Nintendo has painted themselves into a corner with the name that they gave the hardware. People buying a 3DS expect 3D. You didn't see them naming the Wii, the Super Fun Motion Controlled Party Machine, now did you?
