Forums - Microsoft - Forza Motorsport 4 Will Not Have Night Racing or Weather Effects. Turn 10 Explains.

Funny how the OP never bothered highlighting this bit.

For Forza 4, the majority of our graphical investment went into our new image-based lighting (IBL) model, as well as new material shaders, which give our cars and tracks such a realistic, detailed look. With IBL, supporting the general look of night is not particularly hard. However, we take frame rate pretty seriously—we believe that having a solid 60 frames per second (FPS) experience with no tearing is very important for a simulation racing game.

hahaha, i love the irony about you complaining about someone pointing out bad news

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Did F3 have these?

For me having night racing and weather conditions is quite necessary. I mean, if GT didn't have those I would still get it because that's how much I like it, so I guess it's the same for Forza fans. But I would be quite dissapointed too. Driving at night while the rain drops hit your windshield is awesome.

I honestly agree.

I LOVE the changes wether its night, rain, snow, dirt, nascar hell even go kart... I NEVER get bored of GT5 thanks to the variety and I am quite a graphics whore so the changes in environments and hard conditions just make me giggle like a school girl.

I give credit to Turn 10 for not wanting to cut down on the FPS and etc. With this said, GT6 just might not add more content and really can just focus on improving. I hope F4 is way better than F3 in terms of gameplay. Few videos we have seen doesn't really show that (i mean that you have to try it yourself) so.. one can only hope.

No it didn't, but PGR 4 had them.

Are they really that important though? Gran Turismo 5 doesn't have Black Ice or Storm conditions like PGR did and I never heard anyone complain.

I think the bigger disappointment with Forza 4 is no Porsche. One reason I loved Forza 3 was because it was a class leading Sim and it had Porsche! What other AAA Sim has Porsche? No one. I'm so bummed out.

This shows that next gen hardware would make such an excuse not exist.

I'm not disappointed at all. Yeah it would be nice, but I would rather what we do have be the best it is.

Please I am not digging here so dont react O.K.

When DF and the like tested GT5 for Framerate, and everyone was like ahh look GT5 drops to 48 FPS.... blah blah blah. It's interesting to note that it mainly happened at night racing. So Turn 10 have a point.

And maybe the reason the track detail in GT5 is not that high, is due to the weather effects added.

Again the bit about time to. Polyphony Digital answered the critics about only having a certain amount of premium cars, as being not enough time.
Interesting that Turn 10 say implementing weather for every track etc would have been impossible in the timeframe unless the used Xbox original cars etc etc.

What I get from this right now Turn 10 have given us a fully concentrated game.

Every car has the same detail on track. Every track has the highest detail they could get. Rather than sacrifice some of the cars detail ( some premium, some not ). Constant 60 fps, rather than excepting dips. Etc etc.

IMO things that reviewers moaned about in GT5 are down to maybe lack of time because night racing and weather was included.

P.S. I like that Turn 10 wont do wet racing until they get the actual tyre data from Pirrelli. That is commitment. Anyone can simulate it being more slippery. But it isnt quite like it without the real data.

Nice Turn 10.

Just give me perfection of what you do have. The only race I watched at night anyway was Singapore F1. Which is more like daylight. LOL.

Done!

OT not an issue for me.  I take a game on its terms and evaluate from there.  GT5 has night racing / weather and I like it.  Sure it's a shame F4 won't have it but I'll evaluate it based on what it does have.

Neither is perfect, both are good franchises, so far both have been fairly different in approach. I'd argue.. and sadly both seem to have become the focal point of 360/PS3 fanboy rage, with each side trying to somehow extrapolate from each game proof to confirm their view of the other console.  Whether GT or Forza is better than the other doesn't actually mean squat about whether the 360 or PS3 is the better console, but boy do people behave like it somehow does.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

glad they don't if it's for a higher quality of gameplay.... I'd rather have a real sim with good frame rate than be able to do the same at a lower quality at night... and well for weather it's the same and if they don't have the right data to do good sim what's the point too.... we are talking about forza here not GT5 or PGR....
