Square has a ton of IPs, they really need to stop milking Final Fantasy. I would say before it's too late but FFXIII and FFXIV have already been released.

Considering the fact that each Final Fantasy entry is different means that it is not milking. They could put a different title on each and every game if they want to. Call of Duty is milking. If Square started churning out sequels to XIII every year then we could re open this dicussion.

FFXIII is already out. FFXIII-2 will be out in the near future. FFXIII-3 being developed is milking.

You're a bit late

And they have already done this for the Type 0 potential sequels, it is common to do IP protection work like this

Then InFamous, Uncharted, Mass Effect, Gears of War, Resistance all need to fall into that category as well by your definition. Also XIII-3 hasn't been confirmed to be in development. This title is wrong. All we know is that they registered a domain which doesn't mean jack.

I really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really just want it to die in a fire, especially after how pathetically BAD XIII was.

there are literally a dozen other FF games that deserve sequels more than this, whether they were needed or not.

I'd rather buy 100 FFVII remakes than one FFXIII sequel.

I enjoyed Crystal Chronicles, X-2, and Mystic Quest more than XIII.

Finish vsXIII then call me.

Maybe they're changing the name of Versus XIII to XIII-3?

Do any of those games sequels have their own sequels? Is there an InFamous II-2, Uncharted III-3, Gear of War V-II, etc? Also Mass Effect was announced as a trilogy  from the outset so listing it makes no sense what so ever.

Is that seriously a real question? Each entry in the Final Fantasy series is different. Therefore they HAVE to use the -2 sign. So what if it is a sequel to XIII. Infamous 2 is a sequel to inFamous, Uncharted 2 is a sequel to Uncharted. Those games are not different characters/universes everytime therefore they do not require a -2/3.

Give it a rest, Final Fantasy XIII-3 will most likely never come out.

Ever heard of Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, Halo ODST? It's the same thing that Square is doing right now, a sequel to a sequel, if you can pass Final Fantasy XIII off as a sequel in the first place.

my question is...why does it even matter? I don't buy games based on the number in the title, I buy them based off their quality.  Yeah, sometimes I tend to care more about sequels to games I liked, but that's usually a matter of continuity.

With Final Fantasy, they're the same in theme and title only, each one is a completely new game, none of which take place in the same world.  Just because a game is called Final Fantasy XIII doesn't mean it's the 13th in that series (Well it does, but this is different), it just means that it's the 13th game with that name, and each one has the option to expand into something completely its own.

Final Fantasy XIII has XIII, XIII-2, Type 0, and vsXIII
Final Fantasy XII has XII and XII: Revenant Wings
Final Fantasy XI has...too many to count (Expansion packs)
Final Fantasy X has X and X-2
Final Fantasy VII has VII, Crisis Core, and...seriously, I lost track.  Dirge of Cerberus is one, there's one for mobile phones, the movie....
Final Fantasy IV has IV, The After Years and Interlude

this isn't uncommon, each one has the option to branch out into more games.  I just wish they'd do something with VI, I'd love to see a remake of that with the graphics of IV on the PSP.

I didn't get your first paragraph, I was just pointing out that Final Fantasy XIII-2 is no different from what other franchises do where they release sequels to a game but they aren't numbered.

Anyway, what you just said is exactly what I'm trying to explain to him, Final Fantasy games are similar enough to justify them being under the same name but different enough to justify them release 13 main series games.
