Forums - Sales - Namco shipments of Tales of Xillia pass 500k, retailers claim sellouts

I'm not sure if the good sales in Japan increase or decrease the chances of localization. I'm guessing the decision to localize all depends on if Namco gets the return they want on Tales of Graces.

Well, it could improve chances of localization, or so I would think. With something like Xillia, they would have to hire new actors to voice the game in English (or just do the cheap way of keeping the Japanese voices and have English subtitles), spend time/money on the translation of all the text and possibly advertising (I don't think they really do any at all for Tales games outside of Japan). With the profits gained from the Japanese sales, do you risk localization and not getting much back in return, or do you take the chance with the possibility of a good/great return with the localization?

Nice they pretty much made back all of what they put in and then some in the first week. So a localization should be a given.

It's Namco we are speaking about - never use our world logic to think about them because obviously the live in alternate reality ;)

They always localize the main "tales" games. Its no brainer, just take ridiculous amount of time.

Won't be until 2013 if it does get localized. I doubt they would release it the same year as Graces.

Unfortunately most jRPG devs seem to think that American gamers all want to play only shooters with no exception, unless Final Fantasy is in the title.

Although Tales of Graces is taking a long time because it wasn't even considered for localization until all the Facebook begging was happening.  They didn't start doing the voice acting until recently.  Namco intended that game to be Japan-only.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Well if you look at sales figures that's mostly true ;)

Excellent news! Perhaps then we'll see a western release by 2019 already!
