I haven't finished it yet but based on what I've played so far personally I would rank Xenoblade just slightly below Demon's Souls and just slightly above Valkyria Chronicles. I haven't played Oblivion though.

Those three are nothing alike. So, i can't tell which one is better. But as a JRPG, Xenoblade hands down. :p

And i was talking about jRPGs only, but i don't think we should start using Metacritic to measure quality. That the last thing i would like to do when talking about JRPGs.

Namco Bandai were reporting a milestone, and not an exact figure. The first day shipment could have been anywhere between 500k-599k.The second day shipment doesn't necessarily  have to be 100k.

I didn't even notice in the link I posted earlier until now, but am I the only one shocked that Vesperia on 360 only sold 10k less than Graces on Wii? And both of those will end up getting more than doubled by all 3 PS3 'Tales of' games.

Well hey I actually did see a store with ToX sold out! Though they did have "used" copies of the game (already!!!) and they still had the ToX PS3 console bundle as well. It's a chain store and I was at a different one earlier in the day (my gf was looking for a DS game) and they had plenty of copies of ToX apparently, though the PS3 console bundle was out.

I was actually thinking about getting the ToX PS3 bundle myself...although I already have a (Lightning) ps3... That 5000 yen price drop does make it more enticing.

Anyway, can't wait to see the first week numbers for the game. I hope there's an early announcement or something, so we don't have to wait the whole week for numbers.

They really thought it would only sell 400k?

That means they thought the series' lackluster sales these past few years were due to waning popularity as opposed to platform choice.

I really hope Japanese companies see the light after this gen, and no longer hand their best IPs over to the highest bidder.
