Minions was actually the widest release this year it opened in 4,301 theater and got expanded to 4,311 for a couple of days.  Avatar isn't even in the top ten it opened in 3,452 theaters and it got expanded to 3,456 and then 3,461 both those counts lasted for one week.  The widest release ever was actually The Twillight Saga: Eclispe 4,468 theater for three days June 30, 31 and July 9th in 2010.

I thought the question was about whether it would have the highest gross without any re-releases, since it followed a discussion about how it wouldn't pass Titanics final tally (including a 3D re-release), so that is what I answered. I don't see why it would have anything to do with theatre counts.

Since spurge was talking about the largest initial release I was assuming he was talking about theater counts.

Pixels still has another 10-15 million in America? Plus whatever the rest of the world throws at it.

I think some will consider that another hit for sandler.....

Agree? Nothing great, but not a bomb like originally thought.

Well wikipedia says it had a $20 million dollar marketing budget on top of its $88 million dollar production budget so its still a long way off from being considerd a hit its still not making a profit anytime soon.

The marketing budget was pretty big and started really early as well. Besides apparrel, I did not see much merchandise for it either.^

But for just the budget, it is not doing as bad as some feared and the news will only use the 88 million. WW it will still be alright even with marketing.

Is that WW marketing?

Not sure but I think it's WW.

Terminator Genisys made $27.4 million in one day in China. It made more money in one day in China than its first weekend at the US box office($27.018 million). This is also the forth highest debut for a Hollywood film behind Furious 7, Avengers 2, and Transformers 4.

Proud to be a Californian.

the movie is entertaining but no 1billion worth entertaining.

Gotta think studios are scrambling to get the rights to other hip hop bio pics now. I could see a well done Tupac one doing even bigger business than Straight Outta Compton.

Sinister 2, Agent 47, and American Ultra all did poorly while Compton continues to impress.

In its second day in China, Terminator Genisys made another $10.5 million bringing it at $37.9 million.

400 million has been passed! Maybe Arnold will not be in it, but with 450 million or more in the end, this franchise is far from over! Well.....maybe 430 million.....

Like I said. Imagine it actually had a decent script. It would've made $500+ mill easy.

JW at 993m overseas, possibly 994m on actuals! $1b next week!
