Furious 7 makes me...well, furious. It's not a bad movie from what I understand, but like the Transformers movies before it, I just don't believe it deserves to be on the 1 billion club. When a movie like Furious 7 can come along and (presumably) match the WORLDWIDE box office receipts of stuff like Return of the King and Harry Potter and the DEathly Hallows 2...I think we might have a problem.

At this rate it might match The Avengers. Madness.

I don't have any PROBLEM with the movie, but that kind of feverent worldwide love should be reserved for, you know...good movies. Great movies, not "This is cheap fun" movies.

Honestly a big reason why it's doing so well is because of Paul Walker. I believe the next movie will have a decline in numbers.

Also, China is always a big factor.

oh, I know that quite well, but The Dark Knight didn't do numbers this good, and it was a far more critically hailed film with better characters and an equally tragic death looming over it.

Well you can blame China for a lot of the movies that crossed the billion mark lately and probably didn't deserve it especially Transformers 4 which would have gotten nowhere close to a billion without China.

I remember that no one really knew if Heath Ledger would be a great Joker, whereas everyone that's a Fast and Furious fan knows and loves Paul Walker's character. Also The Dark Knight and Rises could have made more if they had decided on doing 3D.

yeah, I think it made more money in China than it did in the US!  Something like 350 in China, 240 in US.

The 3D thing is probably true...but Furious 7 is a 2D movie, same as the Dark Knight movies.

It sure did.  Also The Dark Knight didn't release in China and even though their box office wasn't as huge in 2008 as it is now I'm thinking it would have added at least $100 million to The Dark Knight's total.

Well there is inflation and China, but I do agree that great movies like The Dark Knight deserve more. It's like this in all forms of media (games, movies, music) though. The subpar/mediocre casual stuff can make easy money and the great stuff sometime doesn't.

Also, a billion isn't really a big deal now. It used to be, but it's been devalued over time.

I was just discussing this with a friend of mine 2 days ago... It truly sickens me when people follow some kind of a trend in 'loving' someone who died.
They receive much more attention than they deserve.

Furious 7 is 2D in the US, but in a lot of the world it is in 3D (like China). The Dark Knight was 2D everywhere.
