Dragon Quest X is an online RPG. Most online RPGs have subscription charges.

So, will Dragon Quest X have a subscription charge?

A section at the bottom of the article lists the game's specs. Platform is listed as Wii and Wii U. Release time frame is listed as 2012 for Wii and date TBA for Wii U.

The row for price mentions both "price" and "usage fee." For both Wii and Wii U, these are listed as TBA>

The inclusion of a section for "usage fee" would suggest that Square Enix plans on charging players to play DQX. Of course, we'll have to wait for confirmation and further details.

Hopefully it'll end like MH, which was free in the west. I'm not sure I would pay much monthly for a DQ, not if it's not a real MMO and not just a multi experience like in DQ IX.

is the going to be an offline mode!? sounds too risky an online-only console game, especially for Wii

This is the first Fully Online Mainline DQ game. Of Course No other has had filthy subscription fees... SE trying to do Final Fantasy 14 right this time.. fail once try try again. Im kinda annoyed they are taking advantage of us.

as long as i can chose not to play online then i have no problem with this. but it would be fun to play it online for free and if i want some DLC stuff then yes i will pay and that is a big IF! :P

Square Enix will charge Japanese gamers to the bone (DQ really becomes purely commercial) but they will refrain from doing so to westerners who will never accept it. If I were Japanese honestly I would boycott.
