Wow the PS3 is crazy expensive in NZ!

Yep, it was over $1200 for the 60GB. I bought my 40GB for around $800 for a GTA4 bundle. Not only consoles tho, top triple A games cost around $120-$130 which is why i import my games.

Technically no. However, NZ (and Australia) are PAL region countries which are classed under Europe when looking at gaming.

I believe the truth of the matter is that Sony have only recently re-taken a former stronghold; and not by much. Last time I saw reasonably reliable sales numbers 360 was slightly ahead of PS3 and Wii was definitely behind. Interestingly a lot of teenagers have gone with 360, certainly those who got in on the generation early. That >$1000 price tag at launch for PS3 was a killer for the kids who aren't independant earners. Basically to go with PS3 here early in the generation you needed to viscerally hate Microsoft in order to fork out the significant price differential. That's why I patiently waited and got my inFamous bundle for under $700. I personally know about as many 360 owners as PS3 owners. I don't know any Wii owners other than young kids, or teenagers who were young kids when their Mum and Dad got them a Wii. And some of those teenagers have "upgraded". Curiously most have upgraded to a 360.

Even after Slim came out PS3 was more expensive than the comparable 360 model. It's only now with the $150 price cut (which is the USD$50 (~$75NZD) cut plus an exchange rate adjustment) that the price of the 160Gig PS3 is on par with the 250Gig 360.

So I gotta figure that with 300% and 400% increases the Aus/NZ number for last week's chart is a tad low. But with a large price cut the spike in sales will quickly drop off and settle in at roughly the same baseline increase as the rest of the world. maybe after 2 or 3 weeks.
