Forums - Nintendo - Name the Wii U something new

The reason I think Wii 2 is better than Super Wii (which is what I used to think should be the name for the Wii successor) is that imo Super something means it is improved, e.g. had HD and more power, but does not allude enough (imo) to the presence of the special controller, while a name like Wii 2 allows for that.

I got a great name the Nintendo Wii U. Seriously i really like the name.

Hooray!

This has already been suggested but not in this context: The Wu - not as an abbreviation, but as the official name.
It requires minimal change to the current name, would still remind consumers of the Wii, but is also open to some much more badass ("hardcore"?) interpretations.
Think: Wushu, Wu wei, Wu tang clan, Wu xia, etc.

Seeing as many of these terms come from the world of martial arts, it could be Nintendo's way of saying that "motion gaming has gone hardcore!".
It could also signify the return of the east to a leading position in the gaming industry (assuming that actually happens )
If the west continues to dominate, it could instead be backronymed to mean "World Unite"!

Until you've played it, every game is a system seller!

Since most consoles get their name shortened, usually to 3 letters (NES, Gen, PSx, NGC, 360) the WiiU could face the same fate, and since the idea of the name was "something not only for we but also for you" it may end called "WU" or "NWU" which, while weird, sounds better than WiiU (and also can give us more jokes ).

Not necessarily. The Xbox360 is often referred to as X360 and the original xbox was harly ever shortened. Same with SNES.  4 letters isn't bad at all.
