Forums - Sony - Sony Plans to Bundle PS3 and Vita Versions of Ruin in One Package

One of the games we’re making, called Ruin, we are developing both the Vita version and the PS3 version of that title. Both games will be packaged together. You can play the game at home on PS3, save your data on our PSN server on the cloud, and you can continue playing the game on PS Vita by downloading the save from the PSN. And you can do vice versa. It’s a continuous experience, playing the same game on PS Vita and PS3.

Hopefully it cost the same as one game, and does this mean that we are all gettting cloud saving? (turns out not lol,  just some sort of save file on sonys severs)

Nope, I'm sure it doesn't mean that.

By bundling the 2 versions of the game together, it raises customers awareness about the product and its features, and gives incentive to buy the system you don't have, if you don't already own both.

It can also act to push PSN+ subscriptions, since to be allowed to use your saves from one version to the other, you've got to have access to cloud saving, which only comes with PSN+.

Sony's marketing is getting better. I wonder how it will turn out in the end.

I'll bet Gamestop will remove one version... >_>

lmao. That's funny.

@OP

Let's not 'call fail' at someone who is doing something truly original for once. Whatever the method of interaction between the different versions are, I for one am happy that such a market it is being attempted as it can only lead to innovative experiences if it is sustained.

I mean, its going to require a lot of work for an amazing RPG to come out that you can take on the fly for portable-specific tasks that truly enhance the experience. This mouth-watering and unprecedented experience will surely only come about after some more basic attempts at cross-play or whatever they are calling it.

Wouldn't it be awesome if for $10 extra you get a PS3+PSV version of some AAA game with features as above? The possibility of a PS3 game that must be played with PSV as the controller could also ensure ports of all Wii U 3rd party games with all the same features. There is also the possibility of supplementing the processing power of the PS3 through the PSV.

I may be a little optimistic, but all these things are possible, and I'll be happy to support all these developments if the quality of the software is high. Considering Sony's recent output I would say that's a given.

Yea fair enough, I removed it from the post. Didn't mean to say it was "fail". I personally think its a great innovation and I will be supporting it if its only another $10 or so.

I'm not sure it will necessarily require PSN+, I think they might give it for free just for this game. But this is good, but I am not entirely convinced about the game itself, and the always on connectivity of the Vita is not what interests me really, as when I use it, it will mostly be when I go on holiday, so no data unless I can find some wi-fi

Yeah didn't think you meant to emphasize that part of it. Of course it will be disappointing if the feature isn't implemented well, so I get that you wanted to point out a possible pitfall for software like this, especially seeing how gamers have been screwed over with online passes, drm and of course by Capcom.

They could sweeten the deal even more by offering 30 days of Playstation+ for free, so they can try the cloud saving out themselves, but either way this will be nice, it's sort of like what Valve did with Portal 2, bundled both versions together (Well, if you bought it for PS3 anyway), except this has continous play which is even cooler!

I wonder if it means I could play the game on Vita, and my brother plays on PS3, and we can co-op together or something? (Using the same bundled copies ofcourse) Because if so that'd be pretty cool.

Wow i could just imagine the commercials they could make if this comes true. ^_^

PSN PLUS IS NOT CLOUD

This game does not use the online storage that you get with PSN+ it uses the 1MB online saves that all games get reguardless of PSN+ for example if you delete your KZ2 save your online rank remains intact cos that is stored online in that games 1MB title storage.

So YES Ruin save will be transferable for all users as the save will be saved in Title storage, not PSN+ online storage.

The online storage that PSN+ offers is not really cloud storage, cloud implies you can save and load from that space and you simply cant, its just an online backup, that you must manually copy the save from if you ever want to load from them.

"We have a system called Title User Storage, which allows 1MB of data on our servers for game, and that can be accessed on both platforms; you can access that same data.

You can save your game on PS3, go over to Vita, pull that data back and swap it between them, so you can play a game at home, take it on the train and continue."
