Sorry Galvanizer, dude already made up his mind, this thread might as well be closed.

And am I the only one not saying "Play my favorite first!" I swear, my "play them in the order t hey came out" is the most rational and objective suggestion in the whole thread.

Most people probably can't play the old school 8/16 bit style graphics anymore. So starting on FF1 might be a bad idea because it may give the wrong impression to those people. Saying to start from the begining would be like telling someone who hasn't played Zelda or Metroid to play the NES version first. Also FFIII is only available on DS, and I for one can't stand playing a 20 year old game in 3D, it just makes no sense, and feels so very wrong. Final Fantasy has eveolved in the 20 years it's been making games, and gamers new to the franchise probably can't appreciate the old.

In all honesty it would make sense to try FFXIII to be fair with all current gen games. That or going with one of the two best games FFVII or FFVI.

The best he has ever played. Read carefully. It's also the worst he ever played too though, so it's kind of invalid.

Okay,I'm a ps3/360/3DS owner. I've never played a final fantasy game, but I want to play at least one just so I can say, that I played a final fantasy game. Which one is the best one, that can be played on any of the systems that I own? Should I just wait for another one to come out? thanks in advance.

Final Fantasy 7 definitely

Ororo Munroe aka Storm of gets another ongoing solo with writer Ta-Nehisi Coates and artist Jen Bartel.  Coming soon :)

FF9

I find it rather disheartening that there are people who say "Don't bother with the NES ones, the graphics suck"...am I the only gamer who legitimately cares about gameplay, and doesn't find graphics in any way a hindrance? I have absolutely no issues going back to NES, Atari, Colecovision, etc. hell, I still whip out Asteroids....

If he only wants to play one FF. Let him play one that is at least pretty to look at. FIX is the one to go for, IMO.

1) Highest critical acclaim according to Metacritic.

2) Favorite FF of Hironobu Sakaguchi, the creator of th series. He also said FFIX is his most ideal view of what FF should be.

3) Favorite FF game and OST of Nobuo Uematsu,

4) Stunning pre-rendered backgrounds and art direction.
