Of course he has a bias, he is North American where most Christians are Catholics, protestants and nondenominational. |
Exactly right, I wasn't thinking Eastern Europe when making this thread, I should have but it didn't cross my mind. I fixed the thread for all those who are Orthodox. Though I also left out other apparently Christian groups like Mormon's and Jehovah's Witnesses. Sorry if anyone was offended or thought I was acting out of bias.
It was just North American ignorance on my part. Sorry.
Also Sapphi quite implying I am Catholic. You can't just make shit up and then pass it off to everyone as fact. I thought I clarified in another thread that I am non-denominational.
Its insulting to constantly be called something you aren't. Maybe I should start calling you a Satanist, thats about the same as calling me Catholic.

I myself am non-denominational.
I was born into a Mennonite family. I was raised Mennonite and went to a Mennonite Church for the first half of my childhood. However my family left that church and went to a Assembly Church which is pretty much Pentacostal Church. I however came to a point in my life where I no longer believed in God. I ended up going to a Sihk Temple and Muslim Mosque and such before coming back to my faith. When I came back I believed only in the Bible as my main source.
As such I did go to a Catholic Church about five times. However I found that alot of their beliefs ran contrary to what I believed. As others mentioned praying to saints and mother Mary. Confessing to Priests was another one for me, it says in the Bible to confess our sins to God nowhere does it say to confess to a priest. I also didn't think the Pope was infaulable and the direct speaker of God , I believe he is just another person like any other.
So In the end I am now at a Mennonite Church. But as other users pointed out (One going to a Baptist Church) that doesn't mean I am Mennonite. To this day I believe in certain things said in the Bible that the Mennonite Church does not. Such as speaking in Tongues and Mennonites are also Pacifists however I believe that the military is needed and service in it is honourable. Something my church disagrees with.
So my core values do not fall within a denomination. So I consider myself non-denominational!

officially Protestant. that what my dad was so that what I am down as on lots of forms. don't intend to change it.
I don't go to church and my parent show no care for religion so what do I know. I just sort of like protestant ideas better (it might just be the way I was brought up). so that is why I consider myself protestant even though I don't know what it takes to be a protestant. I would presume it would be to love God, Jesus and everyone else and do what you can to help others, do no harm and try to make things better. that is what I am doing anyway. maybe I should do more research.
regardless I pray to good, because the way I see it God no matter who or what that is has to be good. that is the point in a God. the way I see it God is good and good is God. Power has nothing to do with it to me. I pray for things to go right, and through a mixture of what seems like luck, hard work and the good nature of people I have had my prayers answered every time.
I choose to believe in Jesus, and what I believe he done for us. However even if that were not true I know that good is what makes the world better and that is my God whether it is sentient or not and I aspire to be like it (a better person).
correct me if I am wrong
stop me if I am bias
I love a good civilised debate (but only if we can learn something).

Anyways, I have a question, "Why are you an Orthodox Christian"? Is it by choice or were you born into it? I'd also like to address the same question to all the Christians here.."Why are you Christians?" Was it a choice you made yourselves? Where you born into it? Where you persuaded or coerced into it? Actually, this applies to all religions.. "Why are you a follower -insert religion here-"? Like i said, were you born into this religion? |
This is also how the religious classes in my country were, when discussing other types of christians.

OT: So are you syaing that Eastern Orthodox (I can make a great argument that they are historically the most correct denomination even above catholics) are Protestant? |
I don't really think Anglicans can be considered Protestants though.

You better believe it. |
You believe, presumably, in science.
That is, that a tiny, infinitely dense ball of matter appeared out of nowhere and exploded into the universe we know today, perfectly cascading down into the circumstances that allowed humanity to flourish.
Christians believe that a higher power already existed, and created that tiny, infinitely dense ball of matter, and set in place the guiding principles of the universe (the laws of physics, chemistry and genetics).
Chrisitans believe something came out of nothing.
Athiests believe something came out of nothing.
I recognize there are Christians out there who deny evolution (which is of course, quite a redundant belief at this point), but seriously dude, lets not throw stones when we live in glass houses.
