Forums - Sony - SONY: we want mobile gamers to come to Vita, Wii & 360 gamers to PS3

'I also want to note that the other rationale about having the price drop now is that our arms are wide open for Xbox 360 and Wii consumers to come aboard the platform. We knew with the software lineup we have--primarily on the PS3--the time was right to say we're open to all gamers, whether it's a second console for the household or a new one on the family demographic side. '

This is just too funny. The only gamers that the PS3 is going to appeal to is the core 360 crowd, most certainly not the Wii userbase, and not the majority of people buying 360's right now (kinect)

PS3 is incredibly unappealing as a family/casual console.

Taht said, we're 5 years in, are there many core gamers that are either A) not settled/content with their console and B) already a dual owner? If so it's a small market IMO.

According to who? PS3 is a very good choice for a family/casual console, especially if you're looking for a console that offers every type of experience, in core gaming, casual gaming, and a family device capable of playing BLU RAY movies, 3D movies, 3D content, 3D games, everything you could think of..

it's a very good console for the family, and why wouldn't it appeal to the family crowd in the same way the ps2 appeald to the family crowd last gen..

Common sense leo, just like when MS thought they could appeal to casuals with Banjo and Viva. (and failed like everyone expected)

They have the aspect of Blu Ray, which I wouldn't attribuit to casual gamers, but game wise? no.

great idea just not sure Sony will push hard enough for it to happen, but if they really want it they better go get it.

I will say that the fallout from the Project Rainfall meltdown saw more Nintendo-only gamers looking to PS3 than to 360 by a large margin. It seems that core Nintendo gamers, if they are prompted to branch out, will go there

Though we represent a tiny market fragment (as GameCube and Metroid sales indicate...), so there isn't much there.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I just can't see myself getting a PS3. I've had a Wii since launch and I used to have a 360 which I got rid of when it was about the RRoD for a 2nd time and, at that point, out of warranty. I thought about a PS3 but then the hacking thing happened and after that and seeing Sony's pattern of removing advertised features, I decided not to. Now I see Wii U as the solution to my want for a more powerfull system, especially since it's going to get games like Arkham City and Darksiders 2. It also seems to bring together the gameplay functions of Wii, PS360, DS, and tablets. Nintendo skipped HD when I didn't want to spend money on a TV and is jumping in now that I am ready. This is the first gen since the NES that I end with only one system.

I think this was obvious

Gaming on: PS4 Pro, Switch, SNES Mini, Wii U, PC (i5-7400, GTX 1060)

Just because it's stating the obvious, it doesn't mean his point isn't valid. 360/Wii owners looking for a second console will be looking at PS3 because of it's attractive price point and impressive lineup (1st and 3rd Party). Newcomers will also be keen on PS3 too.

360 owners have the same 3rd party games. Wii owner enjoy their 1st party games on Wii. If anything those gamers own those 2 systems. So a PS3 would be pointless. We can tell by the sale numbers that gamers are not buying Sony 1st party like the others. So it's more of what we want to happen, and what we really need to happen.

Not true. PS3 is getting several 3rd party exclusives and pc/ps3 and wii/ps3 games this year alone. Well quality is always up for debate the fact remains that Yakuza, Ar tonlico, Trinity Souls of Zill O'll, hyperdymention neptuna, DC universe, Bleach soul ressurection, House of dead overkill, Atelier Totori, Disgaea 4, ect. are all 3rd party games and on/going to be on ps3 and not 360.

For generations, Sony has been selling Nintendo consoles as kiddy, elderly and womanly. Now, they want those audiences?

They are going to abandon me now? /hardcore rage
