Forums - Sony - SONY: cross-game chat not possible on PS3 because it lacks RAM

The ps3 does cross game party chat.. just not cross game voice chat, why did SCEA say they're working on cross game voice chat for ps3 and that it would be coming to the console in the future?

There was a rumor that Sony was about to implement cross game voice chat via a patch.   But because games were already developed without having RAM set aside for this background task, the patch would have accommodated all but like 5% of the released games at the time.  Unfortunately, that 5% would have included Activision games.  The rumor also continued with Activision threatening to pull support from the PS3 since not having cross game voice chat on their current games at the time would make their games look inferior.  So since Sony felt that not having Activision's support would be a huge blow, they pulled the patch back.  Again, this is rumor.  But since Sony has now explained the reason why (RAM issue), its logic does give more support in favor of this rumor.

Then I stand corrected. It was one of the two.  Thanks.

Either way, it's just a Rumour, I wouldn't buy into it much if I were you.

Meh, cross game chat is kind of useless anyways. I'd never use it

I don't give a poop about cgc. I doubt i'll use it on vita. perhaps with real life friends but not with people i don't know or care about.

(Meh)^2

Well it's good that people don't care about it... because you can't have it.

Well, at least they admit it openly and don't try to give us a bs explanation, which is welcome. Not having cross-game chat doesn't bother me too much but I guess some people may not like this.

why didnt they say this 5 years ago?

Amyway its not an issue, PS3 fans dont want it... unless they are holding a Vita and then they do or unless it is a ferature in PS4... they will want it then too.

Of course (many) PS3 fans want it. It's the most requested PSN feature after all

http://gamrfeed.vgchartz.com/story/86767/sony-on-cross-game-chat-its-a-huge-thing-out-there/

funny story considering its so recent...take a look at the comments.

Always the same everytime its raised on here... lots of PS3 fans saying its not something they want.

Indeed it's not something we want but it's not something we don't want.

I honestly don't see myself using cross-game chat at all. Someone I know actually wanted it really bad though.

I'd rather have PS2 BC then CGC and I only own 1 PS2 game.

Your first post was probably directed towards fanboys instead of fans you seem to mix those up quite alot ;) (or perhaps you hate both with equal passion)

Either way, fanboys will be fanboys whatever console they're from, the best thing you can do is to ignore them.

Currently playing: MAG, Heavy Rain, Infamous

Getting Plat trophies for: Heavy Rain, Infamous, RE5,  Burnout and GOW collection once I get it.

cross game chat ain't worth $60 anyway... i sure as hell hope sony doesn't charge for it next gen
