You tell me? But since the start of the gen it's obvious it's what they've wanted, back then it was seemingly what was going to happen, these days though ... what are they smoking

To my knowledge, analyst wants their projection to happen. Its not like some medias that say anything as long as they get some money. Hence my question, why would analyst firm be desperate to see PS3 on top? If I knew, I wouldnt ask :P.
Between, this conclusion seems like a bad interpretation to me. The guy is saying: "PS3 will have the largest active installed base of any game console worldwide by 2015." Keywords, being active installed base.
After all, he expect Nintendo to release Wii U in 2013 and Microsoft to release the new Xbox in 2014, while Sony will only release the new console in 2015. Which mean its very likely that PS3 will have the largest active install base in 2015.

The study, which is based on surveys, interviews and other market trends, claims that by 2015 the PlayStation 3 will be the dominant console.
Lewis Ward, research manager for Consumer Markets states:
Additional information mentioned in the 59 page document includes:
Sony recently cut the price of the PS3 in all major regions, making it a steal at just $249. If you couple that with Sony’s commitment to first party excellence, it makes it kind of hard to refute the International Data Corporation’s claims.

I'm thinking this means, that in 2015 the PS3 will have the most people still playing the console, even though the install base could be smaller than 360 and/or the WII.
It kinda makes sense. I think they basing it on their expected release dates of the next generation consoles. The wii u releases 2013 according to them and in doing so splits the wii user base, while the wii u user base is just beginning to grow. Same thing with the next xbox release in 2014 having a similar effect. These predictions relies on their assumptions that Sony will release ps4 in 2015.
i don't know about ontop in 2015, but i do project PS3 to sell 15m every yr for the next 3 yrs.
PS3 is likely to beat the Wii in WW sales, but the the only way i see it happening is if Wii is discontinued in the next 3 yrs.
expecting low Wii sales
Why must people keep thinking the PS3 will magically get a comeback. A huge one btw This has been going on since 2005
I believe 3DS will sell 35 million next year! Now where's my money?

Maybe over the 360, but I doubt the PS3 will even be near the Wii by 2015. I also believe the PS4 and the next Xbox console will be out by 2014 at the latest.
I am the Playstation Avenger.
