so where would a  30% increase YoY put the PS3 at for the week?

If this is the case it would mean:

Week of Aug 21st 2010 PS3 WW sales: 168,264

30% increase=

Week of Aug 20th 2011 PS3 WW sales: 218,743

I am very doubtful of this kind of increase given how PS3 sales have been around 125,000-135,000 weekly worldwide recently. Edit: but I don't know if I would rule that out entirely as it wouldnt be out of the realm of possibility. Just unlikely IMO.

or in other words...  an increase of about 75% going forward on a week by week basis for the rest of the year.

sure that can happen for a few weeks... but not in any sustained way.

people really expect sales to almost double for the rest of the year...?

agreed. I think PS3 will see a modest boost for a short period of time, but I just don't see its possible that sales will be elivated 75% consistently. This gen is really slowing down and its evident YoY.

SONY will maintain 20% bump

and bigger bumps for the holiday

should easily compete with 360 in north america

KEN KUTARAGI ftw, bring him back for the PS4

she can rival Steve jobs in tech vision, and business view of kaz hirai, sony can come back

"She"?  Ken Kutaragi's horrible business decisions led to a $2b hole in the PS3 development cycle. In any western company, he would have been fired on the spot. In Japan, he was "promoted to honorary chairman" or something to that extent. He was an excellent hardware visionary and engineer, his business skills turned out to be downright catastrophic for Sony.

PS3 will never compete with the Xbox360 in North America. Too many Xboxes to replace, too much money available in the game for MS to keep ahead of the competition. And let's not forget, once the PS Vita is on the market, PS3 sales in Japan will slump to nearly Xbox360 levels. The Vita is a direct competitor to the PS3 (another reason why the Vita will not appear in the main markets this year - it would simply kill too many PS3 sales). Once the Vita is out everywhere, PS3 sales will rapidly decline. I wonder how they get to 15m sales this fj, I suppose they need another price reduction/very good special deal for coming holidays to achieve that goal.

lol

Ken Kutaragi's horrible business decisions led to a $2b hole in the PS3 development cycle.

u have to take in what happened that time,u can just look at history and make ur own assumptions

PS3 was actually sheduled to launch in 2007 which was pushed forward because of competition from HD-DVD which would have went against blu-ray.

companies like SQUARE were developing FF XIII for PS2.u will find the screens.this is why FFXIII launched so late this gen

This changed the entire configurations of the system, original system design suggested two CELL.it would have changed the computer industry forever

also when it launched PS3 had shortages which led to slow startup of install base and by the time they got high production, the hype had gone down and so did the sales so devs backed out and people too.

Wii and 360 just didn't matter at that point in time so dodn't even argue there.PLAYSTATION brand was the biggest thing in gaming that time,as big as today's APPLE name.

SONY was also struggling with PSP piracy and devs backed out so even that changed the relationship with various devs.

GTA 4 exclusivity atm the time when rockstar promised 3 exclusives in return which never came as the gen went by,the brand's name decreased andsales affected.

In any western company, he would have been fired on the spot. In Japan, he was "promoted to honorary chairman" or something to that extent. He was an excellent hardware visionary and engineer, his business skills turned out to be downright catastrophic for Sony.

it wasn't his buisiness skills.he had a great vision and somewhat good buisness skills but the competition gave a tough competition.

although he could have still went with the PS3 with a DVD drive and PS3 would have trumped PS2 sales big time.though the growth and change of the industry wouldn't have happened.we would be stuck in old days of DVD and low processing power kinda thing

PS3 will never compete with the Xbox360 in North America. Too many Xboxes to replace, too much money available in the game for MS to keep ahead of the competition.

PS3 can still but that will deter there PS4 plans as MS will replace 360.

lookout for PS4,Sony will be very much back.

And let's not forget, once the PS Vita is on the market, PS3 sales in Japan will slump to nearly Xbox360 levels.

absolute stupidity

PS3 will do very good and will continue doing good for long time.

The Vita is a direct competitor to the PS3 (another reason why the Vita will not appear in the main markets this year - it would simply kill too many PS3 sales).

the main reason is iPHONE 5 whihc is gonna be big

PS VITA wouldn't have went against PS3,although PS3's current price cut wouldn't have mattered but in the long term.No chance

Home consoles are still way different than game consoles, nowhere close to replacing them

Once the Vita is out everywhere, PS3 sales will rapidly decline. I wonder how they get to 15m sales this fj,

which world are you living in?

they will easily reach there.thats the normal quantity of consoles sales these days

I suppose they need another price reduction/very good special deal for coming holidays to achieve that goal.

they already have

and they will market it good with uncharted and other titles

are you saying a 20% increase on this years sales or last years sales...?  Pachter is saying on 2010 sales numbers... which is an increas on this years of about 60 to 70%

This Years sales.

I didn't read the article, just so you know.

i don't think 360 needs a price drop to compete with PS3. this is more of PS3 holding its ground while gaining on the comp. even if PS3 out sells 360 MS won't drop price.

MS however is looking for profit so a price drop from them is unlikely. wht i do see from MS is them phasing out the arcade model while releasing a new model next yr for $199 or they maybe able to to drop price on the $299 model to $199.(all speculation)

even if PS3 out sells 360 MS won't drop price.

i think PS3 can manage 15m a yr for the next 3 yrs because of there current price point which is something MS gave away with the arcade model.

Aren't we supposed to laugh at Pachter? it's so confusing when we are supposed to agree or not with him..

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Pachter is saying 20-30% per month because he's basically only going by NPD. And he's only talking USA, again he's all about NPD numbers.

On that basis he's looking for PS3 sales to go from ~250K (for the month of September 2010) up to as high as 320K (for Sept 2011). I suppose even with only 2 weeks of August left the immediate boost could get Aug sales 20-30% up on 2010 so 210K (2010) up to as high as 275K (2011).

Doable I suppose, but seems a tad high.

Well sales just rose by 1, as ive finally bought me a new Slim, the person in front of me was also buying one.

That's NPD only... for the month.

PS3 NPD 2010 Aug – 226,000

So Patcher is predicting it will sell between 270k and 290k in NPD 2011 Aug.

The best news is that now people will need just one job to afford a PS3, so a lot of jobs will become available, unemployment will fall dramatically! The crisis will end! And all this thanks to Sony!
