Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo's next innovation: Massively Single-Player Online Game

This has to be either the stupidest idea or the next greatest innovation.

Exactly hahaha

It IS Nintendo though, so we'll see...

Exactly what I thought.

^ Same.

while a fine enough concept, demon's souls and spore seem to already implement it and therefore the patent seems like it shouldn't have been granted.

I was wondering the same thing. Unless there's something extra in the Nintendo patent I'm missing.

ROFL stupid to bring it up as a patent. Demon's Souls already does something similar to an extent. Nothing to see here, just people grasping at straws because it's Nintendo that does all the "amazing" things in the industry......

Make games, not war (that goes for ridiculous fanboys)

I may be the next Maelstorm or not, you be the judge http://videogamesgrow.blogspot.com/  hopefully I can be more of an asset than a fanboy to VGC hehe.

I feel like Demon's Souls beat them to it... I mean I could be wrong but it sounds a lot like Demon's Souls when you look at World Tendency, Ghost Players distracting monsters, and leaving messages for other players. Only difference is you have the option of playing with up to 3 other guys for a mission if you want to and have your body. So it's a single-player experience with the option for some short multiplayer in-between.

None the less, this will probably be seen as fresh, bold and risky... Just like NSMB for the Wii even though LittleBigPlanet happened already...

Lots of people mentioned Demon soul but skipping the explanation part.
Similar =/= Same.

AFAIK, MMO inherently mean persistent world, not a drop-in ghost players. In that, we all share the same world but not seeing each other. I think. We'll just have to wait and see what it is if they actually have a product base on the concept.

I don't agree with you opinion

forget LBP what about those all those other platformers that had multi even before that game. Hell, Sonic 2 you and a buddy could play the entire game together in addition to the versus mode and that was on Genesis

People keep saying Demon's Soul - but, as Galaki said, similar is not the same as.. same. Was Demon's Soul an MMO? As far as I know, it wasn't.

The idea of such a game sounds great to me, imo most of the advantages of MMO, but without the PK part. Note that this isn't entirely single player, part of the patent is that you can play with whoever is your friend.

That said, I don't think any company should get a patent for any type of game.
