Well, that's good news. Now, about Iwata's declaration that the controller will be too expensive and so they won't be selling extras in stores.... that would mean your friend would have to own a Wii U just to play multiplayer with two of the new controllers...
Here come the haters.

Doesn't seem to be too much ambiguity about this.
Currently
The system comes with one, there are no games that support more than one, but if there were you could use one from another console.
Potentially in the future
There may be games that support more. If this occurs, Nintendo will probably release the controller as a standalone/bundled with a game like Wii Play
Well, this wouldn't be an issue had Nintendo thought out their reveal a bit better. Should have just showed a multiplayer game idea with two WiiU controllers. It seems incredibly stupid if anyone was actually thinking of building this new console where it would only ever have one of the new controllers. One of the best feature is the ability to have in house multiplayer where each player has their own screen.
I sure hope Nintendo decides to sell the tablets and makes games that utilize at least four of them... The possibilities are endless if they do (though expensive, at least currently).
Nintendo said that they are not selling the tablet separately in the launch period, so the first 3 months.
Maybe because they want to check if the system goes wall, maybe the not want to be massive from the start, maybe they have learned from the 3DS experience...to many maybes.
Spiders den are not for men.
My gaming channel: Stefano and the Spiders.
It can support as many tablets as it likes, it just depends on what kind of images the tablets will receive and TV display.
Depending on the game it can be four, and some of them can be limited to two or only one... just like games now... wow

no it can't
this isn't a stream that you just pass on to the controller.the console has to render images which will limit it

I'm sure 8 tablets displaying a menu won't tax the console too much.
