Nope - they'd get slaughtered. They should consider software support for phones and tablets though. I think going forward we're going to see less focus on dedicated tech for portable gaming and a lot more focus on multi-function and a world where Nintendo should focus on getting their games on other peoples hardware.

Well this is what Sony said they would do with PS Suite, it's just nothing has happened yet and I certainly think it is a route that Nintendo could go

I think it is interesting, but I certainly hope that the focus stays with console gaming for a while to come, I need proper controls!!!

O prefer controls myself, just noting that at some point these guys need to realize they're missing a lot of potential software sales if not on other devices.  I fogot about the PS Suite stuff.  Have to check and see if it's actually showing some signs of life.

They could get around it by either directly co-operating with Sony and launching games for the XPERIA Play and "PlayStation Certified Devices" or copy them and work with HTC (probably) to make some dual screen phone or something with physical controls

Why don't they just port their old NES or GB games for the phones like what Sega does with sonic. Maybe enhance them with a little color but it'd be simple enough wouldn't it? They don't even need to develop new games for phone I know people would buy SMB for the 8th time if it could be on their phone. It'd just be extra money in Nintendo's pocket.

If Nintendo did that, then there would be even less of a reason to buy a 3DS.

This.

Some of you guys need to realize that by Nintendo putting titles on a mobile phone, they just give consumers less reason to buy their dedicated hardware.  Not a wise decision when you are trying to boost sales of a new portable console.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

They should team up with apple and make games for ipad/iphone/ipod.

Why bother?  Nintendo has their own hardware.   Do you see Sony and MS teaming up with Nintendo to put their games on Nintendo hardware?

I can make calls with my laptop/computers does that make it a phone? -_-

They should just add skype or a call channel for the 3DS if they are going to use Wifi only

That is basically the route they should take if any.  I remember the original DS was going to support Skype but I suppose that fell through?? No clue...  Anyways, adding Skype to the 3DS would be a decent feature that some would take advantage of.

We should wait and watch the demand and sales of the Sony Xperia Play to decide it Nintendo should do it... ¬_¬

Instead of messing with phones, Ninty could diversify by expanding its love hotels. It could make themed ones inspired to Mario, Zelda, Metroid and Pokemon, for example, they'd be always full.

Their love hotels lasted during the 60s along with their many other endeavors.  How about they bring back their taxi service and have cars molded out of Nintendo characters.  However, with the cost of gas the love hotels might be a better business to resurrect.

"During this period of time between 1963 and 1968, Nintendo set up a taxi company, a love hotel chain, a TV network, a food company (selling instant rice, similar to instant noodles) and several other things. All of these ventures eventually failed, and after the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, playing card sales dropped, and Nintendo's stock price plummeted to ¥60." -wiki
