Forums - Gaming - Team Meat: “Kinect Is a f***ing joke”

Dance Central > Just Dance for example

Have you played both?

Dance Central has lag and one player at a time.

Just Dance is fast paced and far more fun for party atmosphere, which should be what the entire dance genre is made for.

DC2 adds a 2nd player, but still no where near as good as JD.

To say one dance game is more fun than another is pretty rediculous claim considering both are very popular at parties, so it's hard to say which is better. In the end does it really matter considering Just Dance 3 will be on the kinect and most likely be the best version.

Christmas 2010.

My family all went to sister's house. She bought Kinect and DC.

20 of us played it for hours.

Every single gathering since then, I have been asked to bring JD2 and two of my wiimotes to play at their house. (or at mine when we do stuff at my house).

Why? Because everyone I know agrees that while Wii may not track full body, the game is far superior based on what I said above.

JD3 will be better on Wii as it will be gimped on Kinect.

You either completely missed what I was saying, or you have no damn clue what irony is.

I meant what I said :)

I know you did, the point is that you have no idea what irony is.

I've just come to expect that some gamers are just slugs that want to sit and push buttons and tiny joysticks. Any other movement is just too much effort to expect from them. And that's fine if they want to do that, but don't disparage others if they actually enjoy games that require some kind of movement.

The flying and the sword fighting games in Wii Sports Resort are awesome, in my opinion. The sword fighting games remind me of the ones we would play with wrapping paper tubes as kids - except we don't have to stop when someone gets hurt or the tubes disintegrate.

Kinect is still in its infancy. We have yet to see how with Forza 4, head tracking is going to effect the game or voice control in Mass Effect 3. People seem really happy with a few games on Kinect, and this seems more like publicity stunt than a legitimate perception.

Why can't the voice control in mass effect 3 be done with a normal mic? I am confused.

You can use a mic for voice control in games but you would require someone to wear the headset all the time and you would need to either develop your own voice recognition software or license some and then integrate it into your code.  Kinect has the voice recognition software integrated into the hardware and the game just has to access it using an API.  It's easier for the developers to integrate it into the game and it's less hassle for the gamers since they just need to talk out loud and can still hear the game properly and don't have to wear anything on their heads.

Excellent, it appears that all bets are off. It is now acceptable to say that this is right and is a fact? We have staff from this site saying it is a fact that Kinect is "fucking shit"

So if I say I think a Wii game, Wii peripheral, Sony game, Sony peripheral is fucking shit that's acceptable? I just need to know for future reference.

This thread and some contributors need moderating.

To be fair, the contributor in question has admitted to taking "powerful shrooms" or something like that. Let me find that post.

EDIT: Here.

dude itwas a joke, I've never done drugs  day in my life.  Get a sense of humor.

and the kinect, right now, is pretty shitty.  Whether you agree with me or not is irrelevant, that's how I see it.  it's a great concept with poor execution, when they get some games on it that AREN'T disneyland rides, lemme know.

I pretty much agree with you. Some features kinect has *like the voice features* are cool and all, but it just has nothing to play on it. When was the last game on kinect released? A month ago? 2 months ago? Its just some poor ass excution on MS part. But i truly feel that it all comes back to them not having enough first party.

There's nothing wrong with the Kinect, there's something wrong with the amount of good games available for it. And that falls on the developer.

PS: Can the dickhead that took Edmund Mcmillen's gamepad please return it? That's what he's really mad about.

I am the Playstation Avenger.

Honestly I cannot say much on the Kinect at this time. I mean the potential is there and I would hope to see something compelling like what was shown in Child of Eden. Wii sports is ok just like Sports Champions. I do believe that the implementation of Move in KZ3 was superb because it was nearly built from the ground up. The accuracy is nice, and the sharpshooter add-on is highly underrated because it is such an immersive experience. Heavy Rain also changes highly because of the move control experience. I definitely see Skyward Sword working well with the Wii mote, especially since it's a Nintendo IP. Outside of fanboyish speculation, I have yet to see a truly compelling Kinect title BUT the potential is there, and as I stated, Child of Eden is one such example, and that add-on device to minimize the space needed is a plus for the device itself. MS just needs a studio that will truly focus on building an IP from the ground up, or even tack it on to a game effectively, and I am pretty sure it can be done.
Personally motion gaming can co-exist with the current and past gaming ecosystem. For example, after playing KZ3, it no longer feels right playing an FPS with a pad (for me). The sports type games are also good for moments of fun with friends and stuff.

Make games, not war (that goes for ridiculous fanboys)

I may be the next Maelstorm or not, you be the judge http://videogamesgrow.blogspot.com/  hopefully I can be more of an asset than a fanboy to VGC hehe.

why would you just pick quotes out of what he said it's not like it was long at least post the whole thing so you get full context.

"Super Meat Boy developer Edmund McMillen, Team Meat

Buttons. Buttons and game pads. Just give me my f***ing game pad back.

In the past so many years we've had so many different ways to control games. The Wii came and went and it had the motion-sensing thing. The only game that was really good was the game that was made by Nintendo for the system, that came with the system - Wii Sports.

Any game after that, and please anybody chime in and tell me the games that I'm missing here, because I've played a lot of Wii games and there's not one Wii game other than Wii Sports that actually uses these controls and makes the game fun because of it. And I assume that the next Zelda is going to be good. Those are going to be the two games for the system that are really spectacular and really use the controller in a way that's fulfilling.

What will Sony do next? Everyone expects the PlayStation 4.
When it comes down to it, if Nintendo is the only one that is able to come up with awesome ideas for the peripheral, then I really doubt anyone else is going to.

And the same goes for Kinect. That thing is a piece of garbage. There is absolutely nothing good for it. It's a joke. It's a f***ing joke. It doesn't make any f***ing sense. It's painful because they justify it by saying 'a lot of people bought it', but that's just marketing. I'm telling you, there's not going to be anything for it that's so compelling that 10 years from now you'll tell your friends 'wow, I really want to break out the Kinect and play this'. It's just not going to happen.

Gameplay is what matters. Good game design. It's almost as if they thought developers said 's**t, we've hit a wall and we can't design fun games anymore, and can't innovate through game design itself, we need all these crazy-ass peripherals that are going to help break through barriers and find new uncharted territory.' No, just f***ing sit down and come up with a new genre. Chris Hecker came up with a new genre - Spy Party - so I guarantee other people can too. Minecraft - a creative MMO. And Katamari too. We don't need peripherals.

Peripherals should stay as peripherals that you buy for Rock Band or something. Don't require someone to design for your crazy-ass experimental peripheral."
