Since your question has been answered, now it's MY turn:

After we get our 20 free games, what happens if we switch to a different console later down the line because
a) a better version is released
b) our 3DS is broken/stolen
c) some other, third thing
Do we lose our games forever? If that's the case, our 3DS's with 20 games (some of which are supposed to be exclusive to Ambassadors) just became priceless.

Well, you tied your 3DS and your eShop accounts into your MyNintendo account, right?

Hopefully we'll have some options.

They didn't accept my account credentials when i tried to link the two accounts, my username and password totally correct, but the eShop kept saying no...

I had the same trouble you describe above, but with the Wii.  As I recall, I had some special character in my username.  I changed it to be lowercase letters only, and I didn't have any problems after that.

Your gif distracted me from reading the actual post, but I did and since you have a 3ds I do have a question, are you disappointed? I mean 20 old games surely doesn't go up to a price of 80 bucks.

If i bought it 2 weeks ago i would've been really pissed... yes i am  a bit pissed as i would've rather spent it on real games... that said the other than Zelda and Street Fighter i don't see any other game worth getting now.

Plus it helps i haven't downloaded anything on my Wii, so i'll be hoping to get some good NES games as well as some GBA games which i've missed

Once again your gif distracts me, but on to the point it's very true that you get to play some old gba nes games that you may haven't had the chance to play. Idk though I think I would be some what angry still, I say nintendo should have gave everyone $50 gift cards or something.

But gift cards would actually cost Nintendo money!  The way Nintendo did it, many people won't ever download their free games and even if they did, it wouldn't cost Nintendo anything except potential sales.

Gift cards would've been nice :(
