Still expensive if you want something good. My friend purchase a samsung 51 inches 3D plasma for only 1300$, and it came with 2 glasses. But the 3D quality isnt very impressive. Probably the next year line will be close to mass market. The model dropped of about 500$ if you compare last year VS this year. And they upgraded 3D quality a lot too. I guess next year youll be able to get good 3D samsung 55 inches at about 1500$.

Im pretty sure it will take off if store and manufacturer demonstrate it the right way. People are speechless by the quality my set-up produce. The image in 3D  with the new samsung and the high end glasses is just perfect, no change of color, no flickers, no crosstalk, no light reflection.

I had a hard time finding reviews on the 2011 line of TV but this is clearly the best choice. The 2D to 3D conversion is also a must considering how well it works and how little 3D contents there is at the moment. I suggest anyone who want to purchase a 3D TV to get one of the samsung LED line and the high end glasses model SSG-3700CR. Thats coming from someone that do not particularly like samsung due to the problem my company had with their appliances.

Your two problems are that:

1) Samsung released 3DTVs earlier than SONY by a number of months.
2) There's nothing to suggest that SONY's 3DTVs have seen real slips in sales. This just tells us that Samsung are doing better than everyone else.

How's the state of Plasma TVs these days now that major players have exited the market?

Random complaint, but I don't get why this is in Sony Discussion.

The Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo boards are intended for discussion about the gaming segments of each company. This is related solely to Sony's TV division, and even then it's BARELY related to Sony's tv division.

This would make more sense in Off Topic Discussion.

The reason I bring this up is because I've seen a lot of this over the years, thanks to the sites somewhat confusing layout. People talking about Sony Ericsson phones that have nothing to do with gaming in Sony Discussion, people talking about Windows in Microsoft Discussion when the only gamers it would really impact are PC gamers, etc.

samsung TVs are cheaper and have specs of high end models... what's not to like?

Heck they might have worse color range or black depth or whatever but for 1/2 of the price, the general population is not gonna give it a second though.... especially when 2x the price means so much on 3D tvs.

Agreed, it also happen a lot when there was the hacking of different sony's website, the funny thing is that the OP never come back to discuss the subject at hand.
