Forums - Gaming - Ubisoft, another round of DRM

I'm sorry for those who were expecting this game.

After the fiasco that was the launch of "Silent Hunter V", where legal buyers couldn't play as the servers went down while pirates were able to play without any problem, and they removing this DRM from AC2 with a patch I was expecting this to go away, to disappear.

But no, Ubisoft apparently can't learn from their mistakes. Shame on you Ubi!

Please excuse my bad English.

And Ubisoft thought it's a success...

Ubisoft see the DRM as a success. Speaking to us earlier today, a Ubisoft representative admitted that the developer has seen “a clear reduction in piracy of our titles which required a persistent online connection, and from that point of view the requirement is a success”.

I wonder how many sales they lost due to this DRM though...

Haha, they think DRM is good because they've managed to reduce piracy rates. Now they should have a look at their sales figures too.

The point of DRM isn't to reduce piracy at any cost (including paying customers), the point is to convert pirates into paying customers. They are definitely not doing it here.

who's going to bye driver anyways. That's games been delayed so many times, that I don't even care.

Given that this code can only be redeemed once, consumers who purchase a used game laced with Uplay Passport restrictions will be forced to shell out an extra $9.99 to unlock online content and features. This means that a used game which normally costs $5 less than the new packaged version will essentially cost $5 more than the new unopened copy.

That is not what is going to happen.  The used market isn't stupid.  What is going to happen is that because of the extra $10 cost added to the used game, the price on the shelf is going to fall somewhere between $10 to $15 dollars below the new copy.

while i condemn piracy of newly released game (after 5 years its free for all) i also dont like DRM that rewards priates over paying consumers, and the only way ubisoft must learn is to priate there game, with them going around saying they have found the solution to priacy will only encourage other publsihers to put this stupid thing in place for there games.

So i say go right ahead and pirate Driver, pirate on such High levels, it shows that there DRM is a load of crap. Then when figures are released that the title sold less than 100 thousand and was priated 1-2 million+ times then maybe Ubisoft will stop calling it a success.

I might do it my self.

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong

As long as Assassin's Creed is good I'm happy.

This is just...dumb.

It doesn't matter if your DRM stops piracy.  It only matters if your DRM increases the number of games you sold.  If your DRM doesn't increase the number of games you sold, then it is not doing its job.
