Forums - Sony - PS3 grabs 20%+ of the market !

Again, speak for yourself. I want high definition media to view high definition movies on my high definition TV, and I want a game console. It's a win/win.

You keep putting your opinion out as if it's the opinion of the world.

It seems the mods need help with this forum.  I have zero tolerance for trolling, platform criticism (Rule 4), and poster bad-mouthing (Rule 3.4) and you will be reported.

Why would I want to watch a DVD on my Wii when I can buy a top of the line DVD player for $20?

That same DVD player put into the Wii could easily add more than $20 to the production cost of the Wii and would have significantly cut down on its lifespan just as using your PS3 as a Blu-Ray player significantly cuts down on its lifespan.

The only time putting a multimedia device in a console made sense was last generation when everyone wanted a DVD player but couldn't afford one.

To be fair; DVD's were hardly majorly coveted when the PS2 launched, and many predicted the PS2's doom because of it. It seems like a long time, but DVD has not been the immense mainstream seller it is now for very long. Not until 4-5 years ago did it pass the VHS in popularity and sales/rentals. And where do you get a top of the line DVD player for 20$?! A top of the line one would have all concieveable connectivity, support all known formats and 7.1 surround and have a hard-drive. I can't find one here with those specs for under 200$, I kid you not. (I see your point, but it's just too general a statement)

That's alright, my friend just bought a Denon DVD player for about a grand.

Speak for yourself.

Besides, using "everyone" in any context is the same as someone saying that the PS3 is infinately more fun than something else. It's a matter of persective, and there's very little you can say that would equate to "everyone" or "all the time." I suppose I should start a thread with the title: "Girl Gamer Elite says everyone was too poor to buy DVD players." Because that's how Sony is being treated lately by people like you posting in a Sony PS3 discussion thread when it's clear you don't have a desire to own one. Trolling.

Phrases like "everyone thinks" or even "most people think" are defined as weasel words, which is what people say when they don't have or don't feel like getting the evidence to back up this claim. However, in this particular case, there is ample evidence (like this NY Times article) that the demand for high definition movie players is far less than the demand for DVD players when the PS2 launched, and it's been brought up in previous threads on this subject.

In short; you're splitting hairs. GGE is not assuming that her opinion represents everyone else, and it's great that you have a different opinion. But right now, more consumers agree with her than with you. That doesn't mean your opinion sucks, but it does mean that Blu-ray is less of a selling point for the PS3 than DVD was for the PS2.

20% market share means nothing ...

Tell that for the Sega Saturn ... oh ... or did you mean that the GC was nothing to ?

BTW : a qualityt DVD player is not 20 $ ... thats the low-end . High-end DVD players start at 300 $ , so please , try check those prices again ...

To put another person's opinion, I don't care whether a console has dvd playback or not.  My house already has a hi definition dvd player and two other reg. dvd players; and all I have to do is push a button if I want to switch from console to dvd player, it's that simple.  I don't see what all the fuss is about in terms of a console having dvd playback.

Lovely, prepare to be quoted on that :)

Home is a game/app also. Actually it's more of an app than a game, but still, you don't have to use it if you don't want to, but I'm certain that any and everyone who has a PS3 will use Home, while I can't say the same for Wii Fit. Price matters not in this argument.

But what is the point?

The Mii channel is free on the Wii, and *everyone* uses it - so what?

...

I would say only 40% of PS3 owners will go online - so no more than 40% of PS3 owners can use HOME. 100% of Wii owners use the Mii channel.

I still don't see how there is any comparison between HOME & WiiFit - do you want to start tracking HOME "sales" or something?

Awesome, the DS does have a contender. But no one can stop or top Nintendo's milestones.

Completely wrong.

12 months ago, I bought a "high-end" DVD player in Singapore for around $100AU (retail store, not some warez shop).

1080 upsampling, DIVX support, USB stick support, HDMI port - and it came with a HDMI cable.

Anyone paying $300US for a DVD player is insane.

Girl Gamer Elite... You put down Sony as if it's your first time you ever encountered it. are you aware of how Sony works, how big Sony is in the game industry? Yes the Wii is King atm, that is why you like it? You like the girly games?

There are so many more hardcore girl gamers out there, that play the big boy games. Do that then you'll get respect as a gamer and ELITE Gamer. You're just a pretty gamer not elite. Let us Sony Fans rejoice a little. Sony Fans know how Sony works and know they have the goods. If we are wrong we are wrong, but we still support Sony.

I have played Nintendo games through my childhood to adulthood. Do I dislike Nintendo games... Most. Do I respect Nintendo Games - some. The thing is, I have played all systems. Nintendo does not cater for my needs as a gamer.

Now I suggest that you play some PlayStation games and the experience and see if you like them or not. Play some real games, that make you scared as hell cause you don't know what is around the corner. Go play Silent Hill, MGS, or even FF game. Play game that reads like a book. You're just playing comics really :P

Ps DVD suck compare to HD :P
