Battlefield 3's pre-order numbers are "roughly comparable" with those of Call of Duty: Black Ops, according to industry analyst firm Cowen & Company.

As a result, the firm has decided to increase its first year sales estimate for DICE's FPS sequel from eight million to 11 million.

Black Ops has sold around 20 million copies in its first nine months on sale.

Battlefield 3 might be keeping up with Black Ops, but it seems it's a way off matching the retail buzz for Modern Warfare 3 – which it goes head-to-head with later this year.

Earlier this week UK vendor Game announced that this year's COD release is "already tracking significantly ahead of Call of Duty: Black Ops at the same time last year."

Very,very good if that's true...Battlefield deserves COD-scale sales & more...

I have my doubts if BF could do CoD sales.

these battlefield vs call of duty thing is getting riducilous.... if battlefield takes the crown within 2 years we'll complain about how awfull the series is and we all hope the next FPS will take the crown..

Yet BF First week and Lifetime won't come close to MW3, so ... yeah whatever

Yeah but preorders don't mean anything. Believe me look at what happened to Fable 3, Dragon age, Uncharted 2, Infamous 2 and most importantly Black Ops. Besides I don't even look at VGC preorder numbers anymore along with other members. They just seem so off. Well actually proven to be off.

In PC BF3 >>> MW3
In consoles MW3 >>>>> BF3.
In total MW3 > BF3

This is for sales not quality or overall game.

I know my choice and what I'm pushing on my friends is BF3... but we'll see how that goes.

Uhh, inFamous 2 didn't have high pre orders and Uncharted 2 had moderate pre orders and above-average sales. Don't know about the other two though.
