Forums - Gaming - Won't it be depressing if...

...when Xbox720 and PS4 come out they use GTX560 or HD6870 or lower spec'd video card as their GPU? If we look at Xbox360 and PS3, it seems like 2 year old mid range GPU is the way to go for consoles.

Besides, its all about price point now. 599 at lauch?? Hell no... even 399 is too much. You can't get a GTX580 if you wanna sell the console for lower than the card retails at...

Its pretty obvious that next gen will be the 720p >1080p transition but I hope Sony and Microsoft don't just provide hardware good enough to do that and call it a day. It will be nice for them to incude options for people who want to game 60+ fps, multiple monitors...etc.

No it wont.

And I don't think that $399 is too expensive for launch price.

i like my 560 gtx ti thankyou very much. :D. But, It depends on when it launches.

If it launched today with a 560gtx. I think itd be okay. consoles never have looked the best anyways. if it launches in 2 years not so much.

I would like it go in the future and get an infinity-80gtx. in my ps4 for free.

Didn't ps3 lanch with like a 7800gtx when the 8800 gt launched for like 200 bucks?

I know its your thing to sound witty and funny with every post on these forums...and you should know that I am a Pc gamer.

At this point I could care less for console gaming but its painfully obvious that PC gaming is directly influenced by consoles. Take FEAR 3 for example. It supports jack shit on PC. No 3D, no multi monitors, no Physx... FEAR 1 and 2 had no issues like this and work wonderfully with 3D vision and multi monitor setup. Lets guess which game in the series were a quick and dirty console port. Mind you I still like the game, but I would have liked it more if it supported features which its predicessors had.

Other games which misteriously don't support these features on PC...Transformers War of Cybetron, Singularity, Dead Rising 2, Bioshock 2...list goes on and on and they are all console optimized ports.

Notice i said GTX560...not the ti model. :) GTX 560TI model would be salvagable.

PS3 GPU is based of 7900 architecture but it isn't the gtx model. Its basically a 7900Gt with half the memory bandwith. They probably could have tried to get a better card but with bluray, cell and other stuff PS3 launched with, I understand why they didn't.

Xbox 360 was kind of trying to deliver more addvance hardware for the GPU as its using an overclocked X1950 which retailed for 299 back when xbox 360 launched for as low as 399.

I'd b happy with a GTX570 or 6970 or equivalent if the consoles launch in 2013.

Not really, good graphics are nice, but I'd rather that Microsoft and Sony spend their money on bringing us new and interesting ways to play our games. If they do come out with the GPUs you suggested, I'd be more than happy so long as they try to do something unique with the hardware rather than just making it a box with a controller.

I would prefer they keep the same console for another good 3-4 years and bring us games and games and games. It already expensive to make them, a new gen will not help. Specially for RPGs. With that said, I dont like the attitude of certain developer who port to other hardware without changing (or adding in PC case) anything.

I think next gen for Sony and MS will be more about services, features and controller options than power.

Not to say that we won't see a nice jump in graphics, but I don't think either are eager to repeat what happened at the beginning of this gen.

Also, it was always about price before this gen. This gen was an anomaly.

It would be more accurate if you said it's all about GPUs coming out bigger and hotter.

A GTX 580 would run hot as hell in a console planning to launch in 2013 from what I've been told.

If you want to play at 60+ fps with multiple monitors, then you should game on PC because most devs will keep sacrificing Frame rate for extra effects.
