Forums - Gaming - *Do You Want Motion Control In Next Gen?*

I prefer not but if motion control is staying then have it as an option. There were so many Wii games i'd love to play but the motion controls turned me off.

No, absolutely not. It adds too much to controller costs and too little to fun.

Back in 2006, I was excited for the Wii.  But motion has since left me underwhelmed, and made PS3 controllers more expensive (for a little-used feature).  I have come to the conclusion that, even if not designed as a gimmick, motion controls can never feel right for gaming.  There's zero feedback, a lack of any real precision unless you have insanely steady hands, and more limited uses than your standard controller.  I'm already sick and tired of motion, get rid of it.

1.  Like I said, you can't make a significant jump if you launch at the same time or a few months after the competition. If you wait for a good while after your competitors have come on the market so you an out-power them greatly, then you would still be at a disadvantage because by then the others would have a large install base  already, your system would be more expensive than theirs and devs would be more likely to build games on them then up-port to your console.

The XBox was capable of MUCH more than PS2 was but that still didn't do it much good. PS2 had already dominated with its' large install base.

2. Devs aren't going to make exclusives just because of that. They'll either do it because:

. You are dominating (like PS2).

. Or you pay them for exclusives.

It doesn't matter if your console is more powerful than the others. Game engines are very scalable so devs would still port across all systems anyways so they can make make more money.

3. PS3 also offers free online. Even if it isn't as good as Live, it's still an advantage.

Wii had motion controls, but then the others jumped in too .

Why can't you have a much more powerful system from the start if you launch at the same time? PS3 launched at the same time as Wii and 360 did a year before...yet they are more powerful. Like I said, I don't think Microsoft will focus on power and Nintendo isn't so the door will be open for Sony.

I never said that more power gets you exclusives...I said different systems do. Developers won't want to port a game or make a game for 2 different systems if they have different graphic ability and different control methods.

MS may not focus on power, but they will still make a powerful console. Sony will not be launching at the same time and blowing them away.  In fact, Sony have already said they're not making another PS3. Neither are going to take massive losses next gen.

Also, Wii doesn't count. Nintendo basically re-used GC technology with that one. It wasn't made to compete in power.

Only if developers can make something good with it. If it's going to be there just for the sake of being there... then it's best if it wasn't there at all, just for cost reasons.

Yes, even though I don't really use it, I'm sure developers will utilize it in some great ways in the future.
I much prefer a standard controller though.

Exactly, what if Nintendo and Microsoft made a system that didn't compete in power LOL.

Anyway, I agree with you its probably not going to happen but I don't think Sony would fail if it tried.
