Forums - Sales - The year is half over, how are sales?

I never said bundles shouldn't be counted.

But if you want to know my thoughts on it...

I don't think bundles should be counted towards total SW sold for the Year. Especially in the Wii's case, where you could get 2 free games with your console.

ahh i see, I think they should but i guess i get ya.

The Wii is doing terribly compared to before, but expected. Shame about the DS though, but again, expected, though should continue selling decently for a few more years. Nice going for the PS3 and PSP there. As for the 360, Microsoft can't be pleased with this, a console rebrand launch ( or something like that ) and a 500 million$ ad campaign, only to be in 3rd. Oh, and the 3DS, hah, getting beaten by the DS, a 7 year old console, Nintendo must be pissed as well.

Wii: I guess it was expected from Wii. Last year it had a huge momentum from NSMB, the pricecut and Just Dance... Now it has basically nothing besides JD2 and Zumba (which arent that much really). Japan looks dried up until DQX releases.. As for NA/EU it doesn't look like anything can save it unless Nintendo have something up their sleeve which they haven't announced yet for some reason. I seriously don't know what they will do but they need something at least to not make it look embarrassing.. another pricecut maybe? :P

On DS/3DS: DS is having its first average year probably since it's first year. But i think it can do well with a pricecut in the holidays and still have solid numbers especially with its huge lineup. I don't think it can replicate a PS2 (as in having strong post-PS3 sales), but i can imagine it doing well this year at least. 3DS on the other hand has had a rough start. Though things will look better come the holidays when it releases 2 major titles as well as some good 3rd party efforts. Also i think there's some cool AR games for it, so i think it will rebound quite a bit in the second half even with the Vita releasing.

PSP/PSV: Sony looks like it's in a solid position on the other hand. PSP is going down as expected, however it has a huge stronghold in Japan now and that's good news for the Vita. I think at least in Japan it will get good support. If you look at the PSP lineup in Japan then surely the Vita will get half that support? It has decent launch titles but question is how will it mainly appeal? Well most of us got the 3DS wrong (me included) so i'll refrain from judgement till we get the numbers.

PS3: a bit down YoY, but as many said that with a pricecut i think things will only be looking up come the holidays, and with some good exclusives like UC3 then this might be a good year once again for the PS3. And i think that Sony has a huge advantage in 3rd world countries (as i live in one :P). It's brand name is very strong here, so i think another pricecut will do wonders in these regions and in EU mainly. I think PS3 will have a YoY rise for the kazillionth year in a row as it will have strong years in EU and Japan.

X360: And finally Microsoft gambled on Kinect, and although it did do well the first few months, it just couldnt replicate the Wii success of 2007/2008. I think mainly because there's really not enough Kinect games, and even though they're fun but it's not as awe inspiring as it seems. It will release some Kinect games this holiday season but I'm not so sure it can boost the 360. And even though it's been on the rise this year, but that's only because of a poor first half last year before the pricecut. I think Microsoft will struggle this year except in NA. But overall i think it should be YoY down even with a pricecut.
