Forums - General - I Have to get a Root Canal on Tuesday, What Should I be Prepared for? ( Other than a Huge Bill)

Had cracked one of my molar teeth awhile ago to no pain at at all up till the last week  where it went from no pain to the most intense mouth I've ever had.  Dentist said i had craked it to the nerve and not to suprisingly, im going to need a Root Canal and a Crown on tuesday... yippee

What Can I Xxpect from these 2 procedures as in Pain?

The way these are joked about on TV, They seem pretty painful

has anybody had one done recently?( if you had one like 30 years ago, im sure the procedure has advanced since then is why I ask)

pain on a 1-10 scale

Usually there shouldn't be much pain, you get a local anesthetic anyway, you may want to get some Ibuprophen, for later, just in case. Once the anesthetic subsides you may experience some pain, but it should fade away soon.

Edit: i wouldn't know about the pain of paying the bill, i live in acountry with a health care system

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

I had 2 root canals at the same time not too long ago, along with 2 crowns. Not very painful at all. The bill is whats painful, I had no insurance not sure about you, but 5k for some dental work was like ouch! But what Procupine said is pretty spot on.

Edit: Good luck by the way

I had one a few years ago, post-op pain wasn't really an issue but the bill sure did hurt.

It sounds like you may be in the worst pain part now, aside from the bill. People sometime get bruised in their face for a while.

I have only had the crown, an unexpected part for me is the temporary they put in while they are making your regular crown is rather hard on your tongue - depending on where it is. So you might be uncomfortable for a week or two.

But absolutely the worst part was time I was in pain, sensitive to heat and cold, was before the dentist told me I had a cracked tooth. You have probably been experiencing the worst part and good luck.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

The pain is what you are going through right now. The treatment isn't painful at all since you're under anesthetic, and after that the pain is no where near what you go through before the treatment.
