Mario most certainly DOES NOT need a break! That son of a b*tch is the laziest character in all of videogames. Not once have I seen or even heard about him doing his job! When a Mario Plumbing game is released, after it gets a few sequels then we can talk about taking a break. But first the man needs to get a hold of himself and quit jacking around with mushrooms and race cars, grow the f*ck up and punch in the clock like the rest of us! Slacker!

The Mario & Luigi series is right there, you know...

are they plumbing games??

Yes and no. There is a plumbing sequence in the first one. It turns out fixing pipes aided the villain’s plans. Given that precedence, its not really a surprise that Mario doesn’t spend more time ‘at work.’
Of course, I'm joking. The game is a brilliant satire of Mario, RPG and game tropes in general. Still, that’s plumbing in a Mario game, and to be technical, the game in question had sequels.
