Australia, Bermuda, Brunei, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Romania and Vietnam all use (Polymer) Plastic Bank Notes. I am glad to see the change, I hate forgetting a $20 bill in my jeans then off the the washer/dryer. They come out looking very faded, and people think it's fake.....you gotta go to the bank to get a new one :(

Wow I had no idea so many other countries used plastic bills. The news stories made it sound like Canada was pioneering this. I guess its not that big of a deal if so many other countries already use them. Hey Sapphi your from Romania how do you like the plastic bills compared to the paper ones?  Or how about you Rath? Any other VGChartz users from one of those countries?

I'd be interested in hearing how people like the plastic bills compared to the Paper cotton ones.

Plastic bills are great. They're usually in very good nick which is unlike my experience with paper bills in the USA.

Right way to go in my opinion...no more losing bills in the wash. Apparently they'll cost about twice as much to manufacture...I wonder how that will affect things.

And as an aside, I hope that they phase out the penny. Costs more to produce than it's worth, and no one really cares about it. Penny candy might be affected, but that's all I can think of. Oh, and take a penny, leave a penny.

Yah I'm all for getting rid of the penny. Heck I have a couple thousand pennies just sitting in a jar. Gonna go to the bank eventually and use em but they aren't really worth much on their own. Also I haven't seen 1cent candies in stores for along time. All I see are five sent ones. It would also be nice to see retailers pricing their products at say 10$ rather then 9.99$ to make it sound cheaper lol!

As for colour, the Canadian currency has been colourful for years. I hate going to America and wondering how much money I have. So many times I've given a twenty instead of a one. Luckily the employees have been honest and not stolen my money. I prefer being able to see the colour and know which bill is which! Colour makes life so much easier!

yea plastic is good

anyways isn't hong kongs notes like holographic that change colour depending on the angle you hold them. Supposedly the hardest note to copy.

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong

You might be right on the candy bit...it's been maybe 8 or 9 years since I bought candy from a gas station station.

More plastic in our environment... Sounds good to me... Not..  Producing plastic causes more damage to the environment than growing cotton (one of the highest water demanding crops).  If anything the bills should be made out of hemp since it is the strongest natural fiber.

Sounds awesome. But then money will lose its distinctive smell.

Good. I hear it's harmful.

Plastic is more harmful why switch to using more to plastic?  Unless it is bio degradable plastic because regular plastic is pretty damn bad for the environment.  I get pissed at bottle water.  I'll get pissed at this.  Sure people won't just throw this plastic away but eventually it will have to.  Recycling plastics still produces toxins.

You are aware that people don't throw away money, right? (at least not literally in the trash)
