Forums - Gaming - Editorial: 3DS vs. PS Vita - Will History Repeat Itself?

Why should I buy a $250 console to play a $40 full featured game when I can buy a $600 smartphone to play a $10 casual game?

Why i would buy buy a 600 smartphone without any game when i can't buy a psvita with more then 60 minis?

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

For the 3DS, if the 3DS version of Mario, Mario Kart, Pokemon, and etc can see similiar sales, then history can repeat itself for Nintendo atleast.

Vita is still looking good though.

If I were to wager I'd say that the 3DS sells more like the GBA than the DS while the PSP Vita become more or less a Japan system only. The combination of mobile gaming & the shitty economy is going to shrink the handheld back into a kids & enthusiast market only. Nintendo's profits will be diminished and Sony will be out.

"Then there's the lingering question of games. The 3DS' on-shelf range has barely grown since release. Good thing Nintendo kick-started its Virtual Console service on the platform before things got really dire. Still, there was a decided lack of fresh 3DS content on display at Nintendo's press event –and while sequels to major franchises are probably still easy bank, the calendar year ahead is painfully quiet. "

Just taking that statement from the article one can easily see how oblivious this writer is..... The calendar year ahead is painfully quiet... What the hell is he talking about? Maybe someone needs to send this guy Nintendo's 3DS release schedule.

Yes, history will repeat itself - I will buy neither. Portable gaming SUCKS, always has, always will, IMO, of course.

The fun part is that people so engrossed with these on public transport make easy pickpocket vicitms. =D

Not if you have the wallet in your front pocket and they are resting their elbows on their legs while playing their handheld (right on or next to their wallet).

Sonys new strategy is outsourcing to small 3rd parties for VITA

Ready at Dawn, Nihilistic, etc....

I think this time around the gap between the two will be shorter; 3DS 100-110 mil PSV: 80-90mil

the holiday season will be interesting to watch

Didn't they already do that with the PSP?
