Forums - PC - EA Pulls Crysis 2 from Steam Store, Now ‘Only On Origin’

The digital distribution wars just got personal for EA: they’ve pulled Crysis 2 from the Steam store. It’s now available on the company’s Origin service, labeled as an exclusive offering.

Despite this, as of writing, the title is still available on Direct2Drive, Impulse, and GamersGate. However, it’s possible that EA is still in the process of cutting ties with other services.

While the jury is still out on whether this exclusivity will apply to all of EA’s digital offerings going forward, it’s a likely bet, as BioWare recently confirmed that its upcoming MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic will be an Origin exclusive. Moreover, today’s release of Alice: Madness Returns is nowhere to be found on Steam.

this seems like a bad idea considering the number of people that pretty much only buy digital games from steam these days...

Should we start taking bets how long until it reapears there?

I give 6 months max.

Well... I'm not buying any EA game for a while then. Really don't feel like needing more then 2 Digital Download platforms and Steam and GOG handle it fine.

I hope all pubs dont try this route. I feel much safer buying games from a third party than direct from pub. Who knows when they will go out of business? And I also do not want a ton of different cliens/store/whet evers installed on my comp. Glad I already got the game

Not to mention EA already have a history of banning people from playing single-player games for forum violations....

I wonder if they will make an exeption for Battlefeild 3, I think they would want that on every service especially Steam where lots of people would see it on freinds lists etc

Sweet. I hope that every other big publisher has the balls to do the same.

The only difference I see between this and what Valve does is that EA is different from Valve and apparently Origin doesn't have to be running in the background to be able to play a game.

So, is that liek the EA download manager, or is it a whole new system, or what?

Oh look at that, EADM updates itself to Origin. Neat. I don't see a problem with this anymore honestly, though it's kind of dumb to restrict your game to a single outlet. Also EA are fucking idiots, while Valve have only recently started to show signs of idiocy.
