Forums - Nintendo - Crytek: We're bringing our tech to Wii U

This can't be true, the Wii U is not as powerful as the first Xbox.

Good news for Nintendo. Seems that this time they really are working for a good bussines releation with third partys.

It's not a business relation. If it was, these developers would have found reason to support the Wii. This time it's just because it's a system where they can again wave their specs around.

Um, what does that mean? That kind of comment isn't clear when we don't know which part you are responding to.

All these "3rd party show off" comments you like to make.

You seem convinced Wii didn't get support like the other consoles because third parties couldn't 'show off' on it.

and there's another 3rd party on board. Hopefully this also means Nintendo will be getting a lot of exclusives from third parties due the system's power and unique interface

fuck, this is a pretty big deal

A new Far Cry game on the Wii U would be awesome. Too bad that they'll have to include minigames with primary colors featuring cartoonish characters in order for it to sell over 100 K.

To me Nintendo exclusives are enough. Third partys 'AAA' games can be multiplatform.

@NJ5 It's two Wii ducktaped!

I'd love it if they used this engine and let Crytek UK (who we should know were formerly Free Radical) develop a Timesplitters game...

Alas, I fear that is the stuff of dreams.

As I have said before, and I recently saw John Carmack say in an interview, the Wii was ignored by many publishers because they focused on treating the PS3, XBox 360 and PC as a single platform; and if they could have included the Wii into their development plans it probably would have seen most of the same multi-platform games as the HD consoles.

I suspect that part of the intention with the Crytech, Unreal and Tech-5 engine is to help developers create games that will be released on a very diverse set of platforms; probably including everything from tablet-PCs or current generation consoles and going up to PCs with processing power that is greater than any next generation console. The reason for this is simple, if costs increase on next generation game development in a similar fashion to how they have in the past several generations publishers can simply not afford to have gamers who say "I didn't buy that game because it wasn't released to a platform I own"

Regardless of how powerful some people think the Wii U is, the Wii U will certainly has the power to be part of this strategy. The challenge for Nintendo will no longer be to get publishers to release their desired games to Nintendo's system, the challenge will become for Nintendo to convince developers to use its unique features in a way that people will see the Wii U's version of most games as (roughly) equal to or better than their competition's version.

You're acting like I pulled it out of nowhere. Reggie outright said that developers refused to make certain games for the Wii because of the specs.

And what would you call the escalating budgets in games, and some developers actually stating they want more powerful systems, as they feel they've done all they could on current systems? If you want more specs to play with, that can't mean developers are against showing off.
