Forums - Gaming - Wii U, The Most Ideal MMO Console by 2012?

The Wii U is far better suited to conventional MMOs than any other console but I wouldn't say that it is ideal ... You could have the screen act as a tabbed interface with one screen being the currently used actions, and the more commonly used actions could be bound to your buttons or d-pad for quick usage.

Erm ... can't normal buttons do these things?

After playing MMORPGs for a long time, I can safely say that you can never have too many macros.

Indeed, Keyboards dont even have enough keys to do it without resorting to using key combinations (ie alt plus a button does different to simply pressing the button)

Anyway, for MMOs it will most likely be

Keyboard+Mouse > Wii U >>>> All other consoles

actually, keyboard is a terrible controller, mouse is ok : P

WiiU screen would be much better

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

after seeing this trailer for Ghost Recon Wii U I can't wait to see MMO's on the WiiU

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Would be weird mainly because when for example, I'm playing WoW...

I use touch to identify which key my finger is on. With a touch screen, you don't know exactly what you're touching without looking down and seeing. It's weird :/

while it is possible it would be very difficult to use the screen for marco's while using the circle pads for movement/camera movement.

Also most mmo's have alot of abilities, in wow my prot paladin regularly uses: Crusader Strike, Hammer of the righteous, judgement, avenger's shield, shield of the righteous, Inquisition, holy wrath, divine protection, guardian of ancient kings, divine guardian, ardent defender, rebuke, hand of reckoning, word of glory, hand of salvation, hand of protection, hand of sacrifice, divine shield, lay on hands and more. Now that would be a lot of things to have on the touch screen and even then you would need another layout for abilities you regularly use outside of combat (eg. buffs and rezing people) -- it is all just much easier with a keyboard and mouse.

I never said it was better than KBO and mouse =P Just that this is the most ideal MMO console by the end of 2012. Healing can super easy mode in a PVE situation, bind heals to left triggers and just tap your party or raid member, that's pretty much a faster version of Grid (would work for other key skills too, just quick taps of you fingers without the need to move the mouse over for spot heal or buffs etc.) Small touch icon you can customize the location of to instantly bring up different menus etc etc. I'm not looking for WoW on Wii U, that's a pure PC MMORPG, but they can do much more interesting stuff vs something like DCUO. Also, just imagen how not fucked FF14's menus and inventory would be on something like Wii U.

Don't know why people bring up WoW so much, shit is dull again, I got Cata, did all story modes, then got all Epics on my Prot Pally in like 3 months on top of epic Ret gear, then pretty much just stopped playing, would just log on to chat with people sometimes. The new ZA and all them shit are ass easy, I doubt the new raids will be super hard either, I really miss old WoW and pre-nerf BC where things were more challenging. I'm fucking done with it, sub finally runs out next month since I was dumb to do a 6 months deal. Gonna just wait for Tera and Firefall.

defiantly would be superior to a standard controller for MMOs, obviously you would never lure hard core MMO gamers from the PC and I doubt most MMOs would work that well. But an MMO built from the ground up could work very well for more casual players. A Pokemon MMO could probably make Nintendo a lot of money....

lol I don't know man, raids would be retarded LOL. Running around throwing pokeballs and shit hahahahaha.

I hadn't actually thought about it until now, but it does make a lot of sense. It won't be ideal, but I imagine it will be better than a standard controller.
