Forums - Gaming - Wii U, The Most Ideal MMO Console by 2012?

So with touch screen finally hitting a home console, I can already see macro creations, easy hot keybinds, therefore closing the bridge inbetween PC MMORPG and console MMORPG by a huge amount. Not to mention easier inventory management, point assignments, and all that making it both viable substitudes for keyboard hot key and mouse dragging. With the ability to buy and use cheap USB HDD at large capacities, this can be easily done! Thoughts?

It's perfect.

i find it immensely amusing that you believe a 6 inch touch screen can replace a keyboard and mouse. especially when you believe they can do all this on the screen and still keep proper attention on the game.

Not everything needs to be on the screen at once. You can have short cut icons on the very bottom corner to inventory, keyboard, hotkeys(icons rather,) etc etc. Not to mention it has a mic, speaker, and head phones plug built in for voice chat. Online is sounding to be very open as well, this console has the potential to be the first proper MMO console to date. If I have the ability to not look at my keyboard when I play a MMO on PC already, I don't see how pressing on the touch screen without looking at it for shortcuts would be a problem. I can also hold up the screen while I'm playing since the press has confirmed the controller to be quiet light already. This controller can do many many things not previously possible on consoles! O_O;;

Pretty good idea, the big touchscreen is perfect for lots of hot keys

I doubt anyone will actually take advantage of it though :p

@MrBubbles: It could replace a keyboard because you'd have a visual representation of the thing you wanted, there'd be no need to memorize a bunch of shortcut keys...etc

I remember some company made a laptop that had customization keyboard icons made specifically for MMOs (the button would show an icon for the shortcut shortcut), this is the same

i dont even know how to respond to these continued absurdities.  it defies all concept of logic.

Erm ... can't normal buttons do these things?

After playing MMORPGs for a long time, I can safely say that you can never have too many macros.

Well, I guess the other way to look at it is that console gamers are less likely to want to play things that are too complex....... which would make pretty good sense in a psyche profile way. I'm just saying the possibilities are there heh.

while it is possible it would be very difficult to use the screen for marco's while using the circle pads for movement/camera movement.

Also most mmo's have alot of abilities, in wow my prot paladin regularly uses: Crusader Strike, Hammer of the righteous, judgement, avenger's shield, shield of the righteous, Inquisition, holy wrath, divine protection, guardian of ancient kings, divine guardian, ardent defender, rebuke, hand of reckoning, word of glory, hand of salvation, hand of protection, hand of sacrifice, divine shield, lay on hands and more. Now that would be a lot of things to have on the touch screen and even then you would need another layout for abilities you regularly use outside of combat (eg. buffs and rezing people) -- it is all just much easier with a keyboard and mouse.
